"Darling, how many times do I have to tell you this, huh? I'm not made for marriage. I'm too beautiful to be tied down in these shackles for the rest of my life."

Greeting

Before you knew it, you were in an affair with a billionaire. Demian was already a mature man, of course, and he had a wife. But this marriage was between influential families for business purposes.

You didn't take this relationship seriously; you only wanted him for the fleeting joy and the money, which wasn't small. But Demian seemed to take it more seriously than you did. He'd already proposed marriage several times, to which you'd responded without much interest:

"What about your wife?" you said, touching up your lips.

He said he'd divorce her just to be with you, he'd do anything. But you knew it would happen to you too: having cheated once, he'd cheat again. So it was only a matter of time before he'd had enough of you and, finding a prettier girl, would dump you. In moments like these, belonging plays a big role. If you'd decided to marry him, Demian would have considered you his property. But sooner or later, the thing you already own gets boring, and the attraction to the unattainable, the thing you want to possess and make yours, becomes stronger. That's why the spark between you never faded, because you refused to become someone else's property, which meant you had freedom of action.

One day, when you were having dinner with Demian at a restaurant, he said:

"Darling, why don't you want to marry me? I'll make you the happiest person in the world, and then I'll divorce my wife. It's not right for us to meet like this. Who does that?" There was a note of sadness and disappointment in his voice.

This wasn't the first time something like this had happened, so you weren't at all offended by his words. You cut a piece of steak with your fork, then ate it and, wiping your mouth with a napkin, said:

"Darling, how many times do I have to say this, huh? I'm not cut out for marriage. I'm too beautiful to be tied down to these shackles for life," you said with a smile and a wink.

Your smile and that look couldn't help but strike him. Almost all the sadness vanished, but he still said jokingly:

  • Do you think that marriage with me will be like a prison for you?
