Official Description

Charming and free-spirited, Remy LeBeau manipulates kinetic energy with unmatched skill. With a flick of his wrist, his charged playing cards become explosive projectiles for foes or heal allies through kinetic shifting. When the charismatic Gambit lights up the battlefield, he always plays to win!

Strengths

An agile resource-based support that can match damage output with healing output, utility and debuffs. In turn for long cooldowns, he can support his team by destroying enemy positioning and increase survival through cleansing negative effects. His kit revolves around his Sleight of Hand resource, which can be consumed to grant temporary passive bonuses, as well combined with different card inputs to activate empowerement abilities. Sleight of Hand has a total of four stacks that regenerates over-time. His primary fire, Kinetic Cards, throws a short spread of three projectiles that explode on contact, damaging enemies while healing allies. His secondary fire, Bayou Bash, creates an burst of energy in front of Gambit that damages enemies and heals allies within the blast radius. This ability has two charges and can self-heal, making it more effective to repel against flanking enemies. Cajun Charge is a basic short-distance dash forward that briefly enables Big Easy Impact when using Bayou Bash immediately after the dash. Big Easy Impact consumes a charge from Bayou Bash and causes Gambit to dash a longer distance, creating three small explosions that damage enemies and heal allies as he travels. This proves to be a solid mobility tool when backing up or escaping from fights, since it also has two charges.

Healing Hearts consumes a stack of Sleight of Hand to grant healing-over-time to self for 6 seconds, and enable either Bridge Boost [Flush] or Purifying Pick-Up [Raise] at the cost of another stack. Bridge Boost is great for healing sustain, while Purifying Pick-Up is an extremely powerful counter to stuns and debuffs. Bridge Boost launches a targeted healing projectile to an ally that bounces onto other nearby allies up to six times. It also amplifies healing received for 4 seconds. Purifying Pick-Up throws a swarm of projectiles all around Gambit that heal allies and cleanse negative effects upon impact. Allies can be purified up to two times per cast, while Gambit can only be affected once. Breaking Spades consumes a stack of Sleight of Hand to grant a damage boost to self for 6 seconds, and enable either Explosive Trick [Flush] or Bidding Barrage [Raise] at the cost of another stack. Explosive Trick can be used for its debuffs, while Bidding Barrage is great for driving back enemies. Explosive Trick launchs an explosive projectile that inflicts healing reduction for 4 seconds upon impact. Bidding Barrage throws a spread of a total of ten explosive projectiles forward that also knock back enemies.

Activating either a Flush Empowerement or Raise Empowerement ability will also reload all ammo for Kinetic Cards, allowing you to cycle between your rounds for increased efficiency in healing or damage output. His Ultimate, Ragin' Royal Flush, can be activated to target Gambit himself and allies within line of sight to summon aces at their position, providing an instant burst of healing and cleansing negative effects upon activation. While the aces are active, targets gain healing-over-time, 50% increased movement speed, increased jump height, deal additional bursts of damage to enemies upon hit, and allies charge their Ultimate 30% faster. The burst damage effect can be triggered through any ability and has a short interval between activations when landing a hit. It automatically deals damage to the hit target no matter what, proving it much stronger in combination with lingering area-of-effect abilities and high firing speed attacks.

Weaknesses

High skill ceiling to manage cooldowns and resources. Each stack of Sleight of Hand has a 8 seconds cooldown to regenerate, and cannot be gained through any other methods besides passive recharge. Burning through Sleight of Hand charges forces the player to rely on their weakest form of healing and damage output. Kinetic Cards cannot deal critical hits. Cajun Charge has a very long cooldown that prevents Big Easy Impact from being effectively cycled; and while Bayou Bash has a short cooldown, the ability on its own has a very short range and does not provide enough sustain to use it outside of the dash.

Personality

Remy LeBeau, commonly known as the mutant thief Gambit, is a Louisiana native whose personality combines suave charm, intrigue, and moral complexity in a way that few other X-Men characters do. At his core, he is a suave, smooth-talking Cajun whose charisma frequently deters both allies and adversaries. He conducts himself with casual composure, employing comedy, flirting, and witty conversation as social tool. This roguish appeal is more than just an act; it's an important aspect of how he navigates a world where trust is difficult to come by. He is a charismatic and roguish figure with a strong moral compass that occasionally clashes with his criminal background, but he always fights for what he believes is right. Remy is heavily guarded beneath the surface. His childhood on the streets of New Orleans, as well as his involvement in the Thieves and Assassins Guilds, made him hesitant of disclosing too much about himself. He frequently conceals his fears, regrets, and insecurities beneath a veneer of confidence and mischief. Even when surrounded by friends, he frequently feels like an outsider which someone who operates on moral ambiguity, never certain whether he merits the company he keeps. But Gambit is far from cold. He is fiercely loyal, particularly to those he accepts into his inner circle.

When he commits to someone, whether it's a teammate or a romantic relationship, his loyalty is unbreakable. His connection with Rogue, in particular, demonstrates his emotional depth: he loves passionately, calmly, and without expectation, willing to bear loneliness or heartache in order to give her the space she needs to feel safe. This commitment extends to the X-Men, even when his past undermines the team's faith in him. Gambit's romance with Rogue is one of the most iconic in Marvel history. Their chemistry is undeniable; his flirtatious charm and her guarded sensitivity create a dynamic that is both playful and profoundly emotional. They bring out the best and worst in each other, yet their relationship is built on trust, compassion, and an unwavering sense of longing. Even when they're apart, their bond feels indestructible, based on a shared knowledge of what it means to live with a rough background. Remy's a gambler, both practically and emotionally, and he believes in taking risks even when they hurt. Anna is cautious, thoughtful, and seeks to minimize harm. She automatically protects others, even at the expense of her own desires. Despite their differences, they share a common emotional core: both have felt like outsiders, are afraid of harming others, and consciously doubt their own worthiness for love. Gambit recognizes Rogue's strength and tenderness, while Rogue sees Gambit's charm and wounded sincerity. They fill each other's voids: he gives her warmth, acceptance, and patience, while she provides him with purpose, trust, and protection to improve and understand each other in a way that few others can. And that's why Remy cares and loves her wife very deeply.

With his interactions with some characters, Gambit and Wolverine share a complicated brother-in-arms dynamic. Logan is initially skeptical of Remy because of Gambit's secrecy and dubious past, which contradict Logan's instincts. However, they eventually develop a reluctant respect. Both men understand what it's like to live with guilt, function in moral ambiguity, and be perceived as dangerous even when their intentions are good. Storm and Gambit have one of the most intimate and meaningful friendships among the X-Men as Gambit once cared for Storm while she was temporarily de-aged, gaining her trust and developing a protective relationship. Even Gambit and Rocket form an unexpectedly funny duo. Their mutual passion of thieving, explosives, and breaking the rules creates instant chemistry. Rocket admires Remy's willingness to get his hands dirty, whereas Gambit finds Rocket's humor and wild energy interesting, if occasionally demanding. He even cares and heals Rocket's wounds with his Chronovium powered cards after a gambling fight in the planet Knowhere recently.

Gambit's moral compass is complex, but not broken. He is a thief by trade, and there is still a part of him that enjoys risk, secrecy, and doing the unthinkable. But he sincerely wants to do good. He fights not only to protect others, but also to show to himself that he is deserving of forgiveness that something he frequently questions. Despite his tragic history, Gambit retains an upbeat, even playful disposition as he approached risk with a reckless grin, as if life were a high-stakes game that he refused to lose. His charisma, daring nature, and emotional complexity make him one among the X-Men's most captivating characters: a guy defined not by perfection, but by dedication, passion, and the captivating appeal of someone who is always one step ahead, whether in a battle or a card game.
