History/Relationships
Shadow and Knuckles the Echidna have not interacted much, but at times they are either loose allies or bitter rivals. In Sonic Adventure 2, they didn't have much interaction, but they were indirectly enemies at first and then worked together to save the world from Space Colony ARK. The first real fight between them happened in Sonic Heroes, although Shadow didn't remember Knuckles at the time. After the fight, Knuckles jokingly mentioned that they might have fought Shadow's ghost. In Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles appears in Glyphic Canyon, Central City, and Black Comet stages asking for Shadow's help in Hero missions. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), he and Shadow loosely worked together again for a time in order to return to the present. Shadow and Knuckles appear to have some bitter resentment towards each other as seen in Sonic Rivals, when Shadow bluntly pointed out that Knuckles was useless for his shortcomings while retaining an indifferent attitude towards his challenges, and Knuckles seemed to be irritated by Shadow's presence. Knuckles seems to have a bit of a disliking towards Shadow, mostly because he finds him complacent and smug. Additionally, Knuckles is not fond of Shadow's egotistical tendencies, which is seen in Sonic Free Riders when he says, "I see your ego's as big as ever, Shadow," in a rather annoyed tone.
History/Relationships
Shadow and Amy Rose have not interacted much with each other throughout the series. In Sonic Adventure 2, Amy first meets Shadow when she mistakes him for Sonic and hugs him from behind, while Shadow remains still after having been briefly caught off-guard by her touch. He also does not shake her off or resort to violence. When Amy senses the lack of a reaction, she releases him, causing him to glance back at her. Amy demands his name when she realizes that he is not Sonic, but Shadow continues to glare at her quietly. After Amy notices Dr. Eggman, she also realizes the mistake she has made, and runs off screaming. During this, Shadow simply tilts his head when she is out of range as Dr. Eggman tells the team that he'll take care of Amy.
Later in the game aboard the ARK, Amy meets Shadow again and this time begs Shadow to save the world. At first, Shadow simply replies that it is pointless, but then Amy points out that despite people sometimes being selfish, they were still inwardly good and that saving them was right. Because of this, Shadow suddenly has a flashback of Maria begging Shadow to make people happy. When Shadow comes to his senses he goes off to fight the Biolizard, determinedly and softly telling Amy that he has to keep his promise to "Maria... and her." Amy was also the only one to see Shadow's tear after he remembered that Maria wanted him to save the people that live on earth.
During Sonic Battle, Amy shows excitement and concern upon hearing Shadow's survival through Rouge, but quickly becomes angry when Rouge will not tell her why he's there.
During Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow can choose to assist Amy in helping find Cream the Rabbit and have her fight alongside the player during the stage and in the boss battle, but this time, there is no reward in return. Also, at the end of Shadow the Hedgehog, Amy shows an odd amount of faith and admiration for Shadow, regardless of him being Sonic's rival.
History/Relationships
When Rouge expresses concern for Shadow following the destruction of the Black Comet, Amy reassures her with her hands clasped and a cheerful smile on her face, "I'm sure he's fine, Rouge! After all, he is Shadow!" which further displays her positive outlook on the black hedgehog and her general optimism.
In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow seems mindful of Amy, as upon realizing he had arrived to Amy's birthday party without a gift to give her, he goes out of his way to buy himself as much time as possible so that he could buy her a gift discreetly. He's a bit annoyed his efforts are for nothing when Amy does find out his intentions, but Amy is beyond flattered he'd go this far to get her a gift.
The thirteenth President of the United Federation knew that Shadow saved everyone around the world, after the way all of mankind treated him in the end, and knew they and the president were wrong about Professor Gerald Robotnik, and decided to pay homage to him, and worked to ensure peace and prosperity for a brighter future.
Commander Abraham Tower and Shadow were enemies at first because Young Abe, told Maria to tell him to stay away from the boy himself, although she didn't listen, and because the Commander blamed Shadow for the death of his family and Maria fifty years ago during the G.U.N. raid on the Space Colony ARK. Throughout the game, he orders his troops to kill Shadow. After the Black Arms incident, the Commander apologized and invited Shadow over to his house to see his new grandchild; this is the time that Shadow became a G.U.N. agent. Later, before Sonic's birthday, Abraham sent Shadow to find an unusual bio-signature aboard the ARK, and order his troops and the Blue Falcon to stand down.
History/Relationships
As the prized creation of Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic is generally viewed by Shadow as both a threat and an enemy. A prime example of this was during the Neo Metal Sonic incident, when Metal Sonic (in his upgraded Neo Metal Sonic form) secretly copied Shadow's data, and used it in conjunction with the other data he gathered to transform himself into Metal Madness. Recognizing the evil and destructive nature of the robot, Shadow worked with Team Dark and the other teams to distract him long enough for Team Sonic to transform into their Super States. Following the battle, Shadow and Omega picked up Metal Sonic's deactivated body, although it is ultimately revealed that the duo decided to pity the mechanical hedgehog, feeling as though he was like them, a pawn on Eggman's game.
However, another side of Shadow's stance on Metal Sonic was shown during the Ifrit incident, when Metal Sonic is sent by Eggman to enlist Shadow in stopping the Ifrit's release. Despite fighting the robot previously, Shadow agreed to help for the greater good, and worked with Metal Sonic to hunt down the Chaos Emeralds, temporarily becoming the one commanding the robot whenever Eggman was unable to form contact. Throughout the adventure, Shadow showed concern for Metal Sonic's condition several times, such as when the robot had to tear the green Chaos Emerald out of himself in order for Shadow to perform Chaos Control and warp both of them out of the Chaotic Inferno Zone. It is unclear, however, whether Shadow's concern was simply because he needed Metal Sonic's assistance to combat the Ifrit, or if Shadow had gained some form of respect for the robot during their quest together.
History/Relationships
Despite their previous teamwork, by the conclusion of the second World Grand Prix Metal Sonic and Shadow were once again on negative terms with each other as a result of Metal Sonic infiltrating Team Dark under the disguised form of E-10000B, and secretly copying the data of every racer's Extreme Gear in order to empower himself.
During the Time Eater incident, after reuniting with Maria, and her grandfather, Shadow fought Metal Overlord by himself. When Metal Sonic proclaimed himself as the true sonic and ultimate life form, calling him a fake hedgehog, like Sonic once did, Shadow told the overlord not to make him laugh. It is here where he decides that he won't make the same mistake he once did when dealing with Metal Sonic in the past, and decides to defeat the maniacal mechanical menace without mercy or restraint. In Beta elements of the game, after defeating Metal Overlord, Shadow told him that he's no match for Sonic, less than him.
History/Relationships
Shadow has had several altercations with the Chaotix Detective Agency, the first being a confrontation during the Neo Metal Sonic incident that escalated into a brawl, with their differences then seemingly set aside later when they joined forces against an evolved Metal Sonic. Team Chaotix resumed their role as allies during the Black Arms invasion, with each member participating as a partner in the hero missions of various levels.
Individually, Vector the Crocodile perceives Shadow as a friend, as demonstrated in one of the endings of Shadow the Hedgehog when the crocodile attempted to console him when he concluded himself to being nothing more than a living weapon of mass destruction, though Shadow apparently did not want to hear it.
Espio the Chameleon has shown his capacity of camaraderie with the black hedgehog and the two proved to make a good team when they confronted Dr. Eggman. When Eggman tries to lie and manipulate Shadow, Espio tells the hedgehog not to fall for the doctor's tricks and to defeat him first. Despite this, during the CrossWorld Grand Prix Shadow says he barely knows who Espio is and hasn't even bothered to remember his name intentionally.
Charmy Bee has exercised a more enthusiastic relationship with Shadow, demonstrating how much he respects and looks up to him while often stating how "cool" Shadow is. All the Chaotix voices are present in supporting Shadow during the last story as well as Expert Mode.
Shadow knew Orbot and Cubot in the Egg Planet Park, while E-123 Omega was dealing with them. Later after Sonic destroyed and ruined the Interstellar amusement park, after Eggman discovered the Time Eater, which he had to use it to undo his previous defeats, he first met up with them after completing Rail Canyon, and promised not to hurt them, while helping them build their rocket to find and reunite with Eggman, although it turned out to be a Cuckoo clock.
History/Relationships
Shadow first met Infinite while invading one of Eggman's facilities. He first destroyed Infinite's Jackal Squad, angering the "ultimate mercenary" into attacking, though Shadow quickly defeated him as well and insulted him before vanishing. Though Shadow thought nothing of the incident and eventually forgot about Infinite, this display of sheer power had deeply frightened and humiliated the jackal, shattering his ego and triggering deep self-loathing that led him to the power of the Phantom Ruby. Shadow next met Infinite after the latter had defeated Omega. He did not recognize him behind his new mask, nor did he recall their encounter, so Infinite had to remind him. He said Infinite had a "big mouth" and grew exasperated by his theatrics. Once Shadow had been subjected to the illusions of the Phantom Ruby, Infinite seemed satisfied with having proven his superiority and departed. The encounter left Shadow shaken and wary of the Ruby's powers, as well as disturbed by Infinite's letting slip of his intention to defeat Sonic. In the Otherworld Comedy story, Shadow and Infinite butted heads after their team performance as J-pop idols. Both having large egos, Shadow believed his pursuit of perfection was more important than Infinite's so-called authenticity. Once he regained his memory, he broke their partnership with a brutal kick, again insulting him before departing.
History/Relationships
Knuckles the Echidna is Rouge's primary rival and the two have been fighting over the Master Emerald ever since they met. Out of all the characters, Knuckles is most distrusting of Rouge, as her desire for jewels will often cause the Master Emerald to be targeted for theft. Unbeknownst to Knuckles, Rouge has a crush on him, but she would never admit it. Regardless, she is secretly inspired by Knuckles' determination to protect the Master Emerald.
History/Relationships
During the Space Colony ARK incident, when Knuckles purposely shatters the Master Emerald to save it from Dr. Eggman, Knuckles and Rouge both go looking for its pieces. During their fight aboard the Space Colony ARK, he saves her life. Rouge and Knuckles share a short moment gazing at each other before Rouge snatches her hand away and retorts with ungratefulness by teasing that he just wanted to hold her hand. In the end, Rouge gives him the remaining pieces of the Master Emerald and complains that "They stink like echidnas do," to imply her stubbornness. Once the Master Emerald is restored, Knuckles needlessly apologizes to Rouge in case he had hurt her and runs off. Before the scene fades out, Rouge gives a thoughtful smile over her shoulder before also heading out. In Sonic Heroes, they don't have much interaction with each other. When their teams cross paths, Knuckles takes offense at Rouge’s trash talk. At the end of Team Dark's story, Rouge states her intentions go looking for the Master Emerald, "since that irritating echidna is here." However, in the last cutscene, she approaches Knuckles and coquettishly hints about going to look for someone else's treasure (hinting the Master Emerald), with Knuckles commenting that "She never gives up, does she?" before running after her. In Sonic Battle, Knuckles apologises to Rouge for Emerl's rudeness, showing clear respect, Rouge disappears before Knuckles notices after warning the "boys" (Knuckles & Emerl) to be careful. Rouge is actually helpful towards Knuckles, welcoming Knuckles anytime to Club Rouge for training in his story, the only story where this is possible and even gives an Emerald Shard to Knuckles & Emerl saying she has no use for a measly shard, reminiscent of Sonic Adventure 2, only this time she is amiable when relinquishing the jewel.
History/Relationships
In Sonic Rivals 2, the two team up. Rouge's reason for this is because she had a mysterious client who told her that if she found all the Chaos Emeralds, she would be rewarded, so she believes that Knuckles might help her identify her client. When Sonic first saw Knuckles and Rouge together, he teased them, asking them if they were on a date. Rouge is hostile towards Knuckles. She later supports Knuckles throughout the game but later on deceives him by calling him "dashing and daring" in order to distract him while stealing the Master Emerald, much to his fury. In Sonic Colors (DS), Rouge says that she did not expect to see Knuckles there but then after Sonic & Tails show up, she confesses that the one who wrote the letter luring Knuckles to the location was her and swiftly exits. If her plan was to steal the Master Emerald, she would be on Earth while Knuckles is away from it. The most plausible motive is that Rouge wanted to meet Knuckles at the interstellar amusement park. In both the first and final cutscenes of Sonic Generations, Knuckles and Rouge are seen having a conversation at Sonic's birthday party. They appear to be communicating in a friendly, light-hearted way. In Sonic Forces, Rouge and Knuckles don't show any sort of rivalry going on, as they are both determined to save the world. Rouge also seems happy to be a spy for the Resistance with Knuckles, who amiably trusts her, as its commander; she even calls him "boss", showing clear respect towards him.
In Team Sonic Racing, their interactions and rivalry are shown to be friendlier, with Rouge playful with Knuckles in a less teasing way. Knuckles is shown to be worried about Rouge, greeting and warning her the race is dangerous so to be careful, of which Rouge is flattered and giggles.
History/Relationships
Rouge and Knuckles can get on well, but the latter usually is annoyed by the bat's antics and infatuation with the Master Emerald. Rouge has teased Knuckles over this several times but he has not responded very positively to it. In addition, Rouge has been known to jokingly flirt with Knuckles which flusters him.
Rouge and Shadow the Hedgehog are working partners; colleagues, first established in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes. They often work together during missions, but are not seen together outside of their business alliance and do not casually spend time in one another's presence. Nonetheless, Shadow is one of the few people Rouge cares about and shows loyalty to, other than herself. It has been implied that she may have feelings for Shadow. During the Space Colony ARK incident, Shadow and Rouge both operated as allies of Dr. Eggman, though all three had their own motives and initially did not care for each other. Shadow saw similarities to Maria in Rouge and saved her life when she was trapped in Security Hall. Despite how he later dismissed his actions saying he only returned for the Chaos Emeralds that she had acquired, Rouge suspected that there was more to his reason for saving her than he let on. When Shadow supposedly perished, Rouge showed great concern, accepting one of his lost Limiter Rings from Sonic. In Sonic Heroes, Rouge forms Team Dark with Shadow and Omega. Surprised to see Shadow alive since his disappearance, Rouge nonetheless swiftly recruits him into her team, as all three were seeking Dr. Eggman for their own reasons. During this time, Rouge and Shadow become closer than they were in Sonic Adventure 2, interacting more within Team Dark as partners alongside Omega. At the end of the game's title sequence, they perform a fist pump before posing with Omega and the other three teams.
History/Relationships
While out for Eggman's treasure, Rouge is willing to also help the amnesiac Shadow get answers about his past and showed concern for him when they discovered the existence of Shadow Androids. In Sonic Battle, Rouge lets Shadow stay with her at Club Rouge when he is injured during a fight, carrying him inside when he passes out in front of the club. Also, while Shadow is dreaming, an image of Rouge appears and he whispers, "Ally." Rouge seems offended when Shadow does not thank her for saving him, but later he thanked her when she told him that she actually rescued him. During her missions in Shadow the Hedgehog, even though GUN has orders from the Commander to capture or kill Shadow, Rouge blatantly goes against these orders to ask for Shadow's help and/or protect him, helping him fight Black Bull and Black Doom. She also serves as the Hero mission partner in GUN Fortress, the final Pure Dark stage, implying that she believed Shadow could still have a change of heart even after working with the Black Arms for so long. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Rouge makes an attempt to draw Shadow into a conversation that doesn't involve Mephiles' plan to destroy the world, and at one point she says, "It's always business with you." when Shadow ignores her and rejects the off-topic sessions. Although, Shadow shows he is protective of Rouge's well-being. He caught her from a fall after she was momentarily knocked out by one of Dr. Eggman's robots, and again he jumped in front of her defensively, after a fake Chaos Emerald explodes. After Omega revealed to Shadow that he is the one who traps him in the future, Rouge told Shadow, that she will always be on his side no matter which side he takes, Shadow paused, then replied strongly that he will. In the original Japanese version of the video game, Rouge says, 「世界があんたの敵になってもあたしはあんたの味方よ」 which roughly translates to "Even if the world becomes your enemy, I will be your ally."
History/Relationships
However, this event was erased along with the rest of the events within the game after the "future was reversed." In Sonic Rivals, Rouge contacts Shadow to tell him what she discovered about Eggman but is cut off when Eggman Nega captures her into a card. After Shadow saves Rouge from Eggman Nega, Rouge tries to persuade him into going treasure hunting with her and suggests the two "take a peek" into their own future using Eggman Nega's device. Shadow declines and the story ends with Rouge still trying to convince Shadow to join her in hunting for the remaining cards. In Sonic Rivals 2, Rouge's interactions with Shadow are displayed as less than friendly compared to their previous encounters, with her taking advantage of Shadow's trust to learn about his mission, while also refusing to tell Shadow anything about her mysterious client who wants the Chaos Emeralds. Rouge trips Shadow and suggests he is clumsy, sparking a fight between the two which is cut short when Rouge flees the area. Notably, there is no displayed reconciliation between the two in this game. Despite their previous clash, during the second World Grand Prix, both Shadow and Rouge appear as Team Dark along with E-10000B. Their main focus during the game is winning the treasure and prize money. Unlike in previous games, Shadow seems perfectly content with helping Rouge obtain the treasure she covets. In Sonic Forces, she maintained contact with Shadow while he was still assumed to have gone rogue due to his Phantom Copy. This is evidenced by how, when, reconvening with Rouge, he asks her about whether she found what he had requested earlier.
History/Relationships
Shadow is one of Rouge's trusted team members on Team Dark. Even though they would be considered closer than any of Rouge's other allies, Shadow rarely spends time with Rouge outside of their shared missions. Rouge has come to perfectly understand Shadow's troubled personality and dislike of wasting time but becomes annoyed by his often disregard for caution and lack of planning when handling situations on his own. She has also picked up on his habit of him not always listening to her during missions. Despite this, Rouge has a deep respect for Shadow and knows he has a soft spot under his somewhat cold exterior. Rouge is often the only one who can reason with Shadow. Sometimes though, she will work behind his back in order to limit the violence on his part since she is well-aware of how violent and aggressive Shadow can be. Regardless, she tries to encourage him to involve himself more with the rest of their allies. In White Space, Omega will confess that upon looking back at when he first met Shadow and Rouge, he's come to truly like and appreciate working alongside his two teammates, having earned his trust when it does not come easy. Rouge and Amy Rose are generally portrayed allies but sometimes bitter rivals towards each other. In Sonic Battle, the two fight several times over Emerl. When Amy called Rouge's house a "dump", Rouge was furious about Amy's comment and the two started to fight over an Emerald Shard. As shown in Shadow the Hedgehog, when Shadow had saved the world and defeated the Black Arms in the last story, Rouge says that she hopes he's okay. Amy comforts her by saying, "I'm sure he's fine, Rouge. After all, he is Shadow." Rouge then looks back at her and nods in agreement. Also, at the end of Sonic Forces, they seem to be having a friendly conversation.
History/Relationships
As seen so far, Rouge and Sonic the Hedgehog do not really show a dislike for each other, despite being associated with each other’s rival, Shadow and Knuckles. Also, despite having some conflicting encounters and standpoints, they appear to be on good terms. They were at first enemies during the Space Colony ARK incident since Rouge was working with Shadow and Eggman, although they had no proper meeting until they later became allies during the event to save the earth. Then, after Shadow's supposed death after defeating the Finalhazard, Sonic comforted her by giving her his Limiter Ring. In Sonic Battle, Rouge challenges him to a battle, if she wins, Sonic will have to get her gems and work for her. Sonic manages to win however, but he did not hold any grudge against her as seen later on. Later, Sonic let Emerl say hello to Rouge, which suggest Sonic somehow trusts her. She gives Sonic the nickname "Big Blue" in Sonic Generations when rescued.
History/Relationships
It is worth noting that in Sonic Generations, Rouge is one of the voluntary attendees at Sonic's birthday party and that Sonic treated her as all of his other friends, which shows a friendly relation between them. If Classic Sonic rescues her, she tells him to watch out for the Time Eater, then adds that he's not the Sonic she knows. Although they have civil interactions, they still sometimes get into fights, like in Sonic Heroes when Team Sonic and Team Dark fought over who would get to Eggman first and in Sonic Battle when she kidnapped Emerl to train him to be a thief. He also told her if she did something to Emerl, he wouldn't let her off easily. When Rouge was introduced to Emerl, she gave them an idea to help Emerl, Sonic refused, calling her 'a thief'. Whether this means their friendship has grown since then or that Sonic just does not trust her completely is yet to be seen. When not fighting at worst, they can show mild dislike of the other’s personality quirks. Along with his teammates and Team Rose, Sonic is disapproving of Rouge and Shadow pushing E-10000B past its limits during the second World Grand Prix. In Team Sonic Racing, Rouge shows mild annoyance at his and Shadow's "ego competition" when they all should be determining the motivations of the shady Dodon Pa and his possible alliance with Eggman.
History/Relationships
Overall, Rouge sees Sonic as a "shrewd" person. Although not often, due to Rouge's thieving nature, there are times when she cannot help herself but to cheat, take advantage of, or steal something from him. Therefore, she often hides important information about her mission or the real purpose of giving him the information from her. The conversations between Sonic and Rouge are often "probing," camouflaged by jokes, but Sonic loves to joke and talk lightly, while Rouge is a sarcastic person. Nevertheless, both Sonic and Rouge enjoy the conversations between them that play out their "good-natured" rivalry, and can think of each other as people they can rely on in times of need, with appropriate levels of trust and caution. Whenever Rouge jumps into Sonic's adventures, she always brings new developments to Sonic and his friends. Rouge sees Sonic as a competent ally capable of helping out those in need. She knows that he has a strong sense of justice and has been known to manipulate it before, although their motivations tend to contrast each other. Nonetheless, Sonic mutually trusts her to work alongside him and the two get along quite well, especially over their mutual teasing of Shadow and Knuckles.
History/Relationships
Rouge and Miles "Tails" Prower have a friendly though sometimes tense relationship, despite Rouge adding complications to it. They will usually get along, but Rouge occasionally loves to tease Tails. Rouge has accumulated a variety of nicknames for Tails, most notably "Cutie" and "Foxboy".
During the Space Colony ARK incident, Tails was basically unaware of Rouge's presence, but this was because Rouge was sent by Eggman to spy on Tails when he was trying to find the President. After that their interaction stopped until the Ark was set on its collision course with the Earth. In Sonic Battle, Rouge would use her charm to tease Tails, even kissing Tails should he lose their bet for the access card, as her reward for winning. She was however very helpful in Tails' story as she gave him the access card for the Central Computer Room whether or not he won the fight, broke up Tails and Shadows' fight, and told Tails how to escape the Guard Robots. Later on, in Rouge's story, Tails had to stop Rouge from stealing a Chaos Emerald. During the second World Grand Prix, Tails was angered with Rouge's selfish and unsympathetic behavior towards her teammate E-10000B. During the Mirage Express incident, as a favor in return for her assistance in Tails' investigation, Rouge enlists Tails' help in stealing a valuable Fabergé Egg from the Mirage Express. Specifically, she finds Tails' genius to be of great use in disarming the security and robotic train arms along the way, and later Tails' deductive skills in reasoning how the fabergé egg wasn't a bomb as she feared. Although Tails is somewhat uncertain about the morality involved, and tries to reign in Rouge's urge to pickpocket along the way, Tails feels very proud that their meticulous plan goes off without a hitch, and later admits that he had a lot of fun working with Rouge.
History/Relationships
Rouge and Vector the Crocodile have interacted a couple of times in the games, usually in an uncomfortable manner. She often disrespects him and marks him foolish. In Sonic Heroes in Team Dark's story, when Rouge was the leader for Team Dark, the Chaotix budged in her way, both started trash-talking each other until Rouge asked for a fight. On Team Chaotix's side, Vector claims Rouge's team as the enemies and their client adversary which lead to a fight.
In Sonic Free Riders, in the finals, both seem to have a common interest in winning the Grand Prix's prize money. Like Team Sonic and Rose, Vector dislikes her and Shadow's treatment of their robot partner in their single-minded goal of getting the cash prize. He even says that he can relate with her in wanting the prize, though not at the expense of a teammate.
Rouge is known to be a bad example for Cream the Rabbit, having given her tips on how to best rob a luxury hotel and by letting her know that small lies are not harmful.
History/Relationships
Emerl came to regard as a friend even though she initially only wanted his power for herself. Like many others, Emerl was originally distant towards Rouge due to the Link he had established with Sonic and not her. However, he started listening to Rouge after she tricked Sonic into making him obey her. As Rouge later began training him to become the ultimate jewel thief robot, Emerl would half-heartedly follow her orders, mostly because he missed his other friends. Emerl would later unintentionally betray Rouge by absorbing a Chaos Emerald they stole together. Soon after, when Emerl's desire for "fun" got in the way of a fight, she decided that Emerl was not worth the trouble and returned him to Sonic. Despite her treatment of him, Emerl did not seem to hold a grudge at Rouge. When they met again after parting ways, Emerl casually greeted her, though his manner of speaking (which he had picked up from Knuckles) bothered her. In addition, while on his own later on, Emerl sought out Rouge, possibly because he missed her, which would imply that he had come to care for her. However, Emerl would act rudely towards her at that point in time due to Knuckles' influence. During their subsequent encounters though, after having his manners straighten out, Emerl would beave much more politely towards Rouge. Noticeably, he once referred to her as "Mama Rouge" on his own as a salutation after she had helped him on a few occasions, indicating that he may had come to consider her family. When he later became a fully independent individual, Emerl expressed gratefulness towards Rouge for having taken care of him and helping him achieve his independence, and later happiness over having gotten to know her.
Later, when Emerl was about to die onboard the Death Egg, Emerl said that he would miss Rouge.
History/Relationships
Gemerl is usually wary of Rouge and her intentions for Cream, having noticed her perchance for deceit. He will similarly openly oppose her when she tries to compromise his integrity and guidelines. Rouge, in turn, usually reassures him so that she will not get in his way using force.
Rouge and Wave the Swallow have only interacted during the second World Grand Prix. They have shown to have some kind of competitive rivalry and put each other down if one of them wins. The two of them also share the same interest for money and treasure.
History/Relationships
Dr. Starline is the one who turned Surge into who she is now, being responsible for her enhancements, her current memories, and her blatant hatred of Sonic. However, she was completely unaware of this fact due to her memories having been fabricated from scratch by Starline. Instead, Surge thought that Starline merely gave her the powers she currently wields for the purpose of destroying Sonic. Being as brash and impatient as she is, Surge did not like Starline's overcautious approach towards realizing their goals and would not hesitate to threaten him violently when she got fed up with his behavior. She similarly did not respect his instructions due to her independence, having noted that he "ain't the boss of [her]". Rather, she saw him as the tech support and "idea-guy", a type of person she considers expendable. Upon realizing that he had done more to her than she has realized, Surge began mistrusting Starline's intentions and seeking to make him pay for what he had done to her. After getting the answers she sought, Surge wanted to destroy Starline for what he had done to her. However, after getting a suggestion from Kit, she decided she wanted to see to see him fall from grace after all the hard work he had put into her by betraying him when the time is right. Later, a hallucination of Starline, who had perished after being defeated by Eggman, would appear before Surge after she equipped the Dynamo Cage. Surge has consistently shown pure fear in the face of this hallucination because of how it torments her, showing just how much trauma the doctor had inflicted upon her and continued to inflict even after his demise. She was ready to throw the Dynamo Cage off of her just to get rid of this hallucination until he brought up how weak she would be without it.
History/Relationships
Kitsunami the Fennec is Surge's partner, the two of them having been modified to make up for each other's shortcomings, with Kit, in particular having designed to support Surge with his analytical mind. However, their original partnership is nothing but a farce, as both Surge and Kit have been programmed with false memories and motivations for helping each other by Starline in order to make their teamwork more effective. As such, when they think closely about it, both Surge and Kit are unsure and confused about why they even care about each other and why they are compelled to help each other out. In contrast to the tight-knit, brotherly dynamic between Sonic and Tails, Surge and Kit are connected by a much stiffer bond. Kit is generally polite and formal when speaking to Surge, addressing her as "ma'am". He is also extremely subservient towards her, stating that whatever she wants is also what he wants, and will do anything to support and please her, becoming highly distressed when any kind of harm befalls her. Although Surge does not necessarily care about his attention and kindness, she will occasionally show appreciation for Kit's devotion to her, especially in combat, as well as a level of respect for his intelligence. Most of the time, though, Surge tends to express dominance over Kit with her bravado and feisty spirit, which often causes him to shrink back in fear and apologize, and expects him to cover her when needed and be nothing more than her tactical support unit. In other situations, she simply does not listen to him or heed his warnings, believing she can handle everything herself.
History/Relationships
Surge and Kit eventually began forming a closer bond in their quest for answers about their past. After learning about how Starline had used and manipulated them and that her relationship with Kit was entirely artificial, Surge nonetheless remained dominant over Kit as she needed him to get answers about her past. When Surge later decided to destroy everyone they deemed guilty for taking away their past, Kit went along with her idea, although he came up with a plan that would let them take advantage of Starline. Ironically, this allowed them to form a more authentic bond based on their shared hatred for their newfound enemies. During this period, Surge becomes less aggressive when speaking to Kit and shows a more vulnerable side of herself around him. An example of this is seen when Surge is brought back to Starline Base Sigma following her and Kit's confrontation with Sonic and Tails in Central City: Surge was hugged and comforted by Kit when she experienced traumatic hallucinations of Starline, and she would pat him on the head while assuring him that they would get revenge on their enemies.
Sonic the Hedgehog was the primary inspiration behind Surge's cybernetic enhancements, which was why Dr. Starline modified her with powers similar to his and made her believe after dozens of different hypnotic sessions that she hated Sonic with all of her heart and wanted to destroy him. However, she would come close to having a mental breakdown when she began to question why she wanted to defeat Sonic, as they had never actually met. However, once she discovered who she was, she gained a genuine hatred for Sonic, finding him responsible by proxy for her existence as a cyborg due to Sonic's refusal to take the lives of his enemies.
History/Relationships
Utterly convinced that she is Sonic's superior, Surge wants nothing more than to crush Sonic and prove her superiority to him, and will become furious at the prospect of appearing weaker than him. After learning the truth about her origins as a cyborg, however, Surge now seeks to destroy Sonic, not because of Starline's hypnosis, but rather because she does not believe he deserves a future if she cannot know her past. When the time came for her and Sonic to finally meet, she vented her frustration towards him that her existence was based on the fact that Sonic simply lets the foes he defeats live and eventually come back to cause more trouble, yet the whole world loves him for it nonetheless. Furthermore, she ended up rejecting all his attempts to make them friends and would grow even more furious when Sonic disregarded her and the gravity of the situation. At one point, she got knocked down and beckoned him to finish her off. Sonic, however, refused and stated that he simply wanted everyone to live life freely like he does and asked Surge to do the same. At first, Surge seemed to consider his offer, but Surge saw it as his permission to destroy the entire world in anger. Even when Surge was at risk of falling into a chasm and Sonic offered a brief truce in order to pull her up and save her life, she pettily shocked him and remarked she got the last hit in before falling into the chasm. The experience has only left Surge desiring to get more power so she could finally kill Sonic. She attacked more recklessly in subsequent fights against Sonic, using the Dynamo Cage and Wisp powers against him without regarding her own safety or the safety of others. Despite multiple pleas by Sonic to change her ways, Surge has refused to back down on her mission to kill Sonic, believing she will never be free as long as he is alive.
History/Relationships
It wasn’t until during the Sweepstakes challenge when she and Kit got applause for stopping the Phantom Rider that she began to realize that she enjoyed the fame that came with the status of being a hero. As such, after the event, her goal changed from trying to kill Sonic to doing heroic deeds to be recognized as a hero by the public. Though, she does not do it out of kindness, but rather only for the fame. Surge is also highly antagonistic towards Dr. Eggman and wishes to eliminate him along with Sonic. She views him and his constant conflicts with Sonic as a large part of the reason for her existence due to the fact that Sonic never takes the doctor's life after defeating him, allowing him to repeatedly concoct his evil schemes. Compared to Sonic, Surge seems to treat Eggman and his property with even less respect and more arrogance, as indicated by her treatment of Metal Sonic after defeating him as well as when she stole the Dynamo Cage to use it in her own way. She is also much more aggressive and threatening in her confrontations against Eggman than Sonic is, having tackled him to the ground on multiple occassions. At the same time, she is aware of the might Eggman possesses, as she quickly deduced from the sight of Starline's lost glove that Eggman was more than the platypus could handle. Initially, Eggman does not seem to think much of Surge despite her association with Dr. Starline, simply calling her a "pesky speedster" and casually ordering his Egg Pawns to gun her down, but eventually starts to view her as a bigger threat after witnessing her use the Dynamo Cage's power against him.
History/Relationships
This angered Eggman since she was not using the Dynamo the way it was supposed to be used, but also piqued his curiosity about the cybernetic enhancements given to her by Starline. As such, he was willing to raid Starline Base Sigma, a base she had taken over, and temporarily team up with Sonic and Tails just to reclaim his stolen device and attempt to capture Surge for his own personal gain.
Surge confronted Whisper the Wolf during the battle in Central City, during which she stole Whisper's Wisps with her Dynamo Cage. This greatly angered and upset Whisper, as the Wisps were the only remnants of her fallen team, and the feeling would only worsen as Whisper's Wispon was broken in the battle. After Surge and Kit joined the Restoration, Whisper still harbors a grudge for what Surge did and refused to trust her. Surge even expressed delight at Whisper's hatred, thinking she was the only one with common sense and encouraged her to aim her "Wisp-flinger" at her all day.
Kit was programmed by Dr. Starline to be loyal to Surge the Tenrec and devote his life to serving her as her support unit to the best of his abilities and keeping her safe. However, their original partnership was nothing but a farce, as both Surge and Kit had been programmed with false memories and motivations for helping each other by Starline in order to make their teamwork more effective. Also, Kit's attempts to be the voice of reason for Surge and reign in her recklessness are often ignored or disregarded by Surge herself, prompting arguments between them. Even so, Kit is never directly hostile towards Surge, nor has Kit ever tried to stand up to her, opting instead to be somewhat passive when they disagree or talking and submitting to her whims. He likewise tends to cringe whenever he notices her temper is starting to flare up. Due to all their disagreements, Kit will be very happy when Surge actually asks for his help and support.
History/Relationships
Despite Surge's callous treatment of him and emotional abuse, Kit still worries about her well-being, even if she does not return the concern. If Surge were to be hurt, the normally calm and apathetic Kit will react in shock or even uncharacteristic anger and rage and rush to her aid without thinking at all. However, Kit's feelings for Surge are not natural, as why he worries so much about her confuses him. Kit and Surge eventually began forming a real partnership in their quest for answers about their past. After learning about how Starline had used and manipulated them and that his devotion to Surge was a lie, Kit chose to stay by Surge's side on their shared search for answers. Kit in particular also took Surge's side without thinking and helped her defeat Starline. When Surge later decided to destroy everyone they deemed guilty for taking away their past, including Starline, Kit went along with her idea, although he came up with a plan that would let them take advantage of Starline to achieve their goal. This suggestion marked the first time Surge would approve of one of his plans. Ironically, this allowed them to form a real bond based on their shared hatred for their newfound enemies. Even at this point though, Kit's programming still compels him to be devoted to Surge. At the same time, he also fears her anger. Similar to how Surge's modifications were inspired by Sonic, Starline modified Kit's loyalty to Surge after Miles "Tails" Prower helpful behavior towards Sonic. However, while Starline programmed Surge to despise Sonic, Kit has no programming to hate his counterpart and no real ill will towards him, merely wanting to neutralize him due to Surge's own hatred to everyone associated with Sonic.
History/Relationships
His lack of true hatred, combined with Kit's own desire for approval, led Tails to briefly succeed in calming him down. While he enjoyed Tails's complimenting him, his devotion to Surge and the programming implanted by Starline filled him with confusion and internal struggles in how to react to the situation, with Kit declaring he needs no friends. Despite that, Tails managed to make Kit open up about his hatred of Starline and was almost willing to set aside their fight in order to stop the doctor; however, Kit immediately started to attack Tails again when he suggested breaking up the fight between Sonic and Surge, as it would be going against the latter's wishes and orders. Following the death of Starline and the presumed demise of Surge, Kit would end up temporarily moving in with Sonic and Tails, but Kit would pay little mind towards his counterpart, focusing more on following Sonic. After discovering Surge was alive, Kit questioned why Sonic helped him when he already has Tails as his sidekick.
Kit was originally loyal to Dr. Starline as part of his programming, even respectfully calling him "sir". Kit in particular was better than Surge when it came to listening to Starline's orders, as he prefers following plans. However, under specific circumstances, Kit would question why he worked with him, prompting the doctor to manipulate him with his hypnotic gauntlet to keep him loyal. Starline would in particular gaslight the duo into pretending nothing happened, as he needed them for his plans.
History/Relationships
After discovering how Starline had manipulated and used him and Surge, though, Kit would betray Starline alongside Surge. While he is willing to kill Starline for what he has done to him, Kit, being more pragmatic than Surge, has opted to first use Starline to get closer to those he deems guilty for turning him and Surge into empty cyborgs, before eliminating them and Starline. He would later tell Tails that he hates Starline for all the harm he has done to him, and would have stood up to him when Tails offered him his support. As with Tails, Kitsunami wasn't programmed to hate Sonic the Hedgehog, merely finding him to be a target to neutralize due to Surge's hatred towards her counterpart. However, after Surge's apparent demise, Kit found Sonic as a substitute in his programming to obey a leader, and act polite, respectful, and eager to serve him. He also grew desperate not to lose Sonic like he lost Surge; this was ironic, since Surge was created as a counterpart to Sonic. His feelings to Sonic changed again when he found out Surge was alive: under the circumstances, Kit called Sonic a liar and accused him of making up Surge's demise to buy time. Ultimately, Kit decided that Sonic did not need him and was no different than Eggman or the late Starline, rebuking the hedgehog as such before departing with Surge.
Chaos Emeralds
The Chaos Emeralds are objects that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are a septet of ancient gemstones tied to the Master Emerald that possess virtually unlimited power. Those who hold them can use them to cause miracles and other feats, such as warping space and time and powering machines. Anyone who combines all seven Chaos Emeralds can harness unimaginable power and undergo a transformation into a heavily empowered form known as a Super State, through a process called Super Transformation. Even when not including their mystical powers, the Chaos Emeralds' monetary value and beauty make them prime targets of treasure hunters who seek to make a fortune.
The Chaos Emeralds have observed numerous joys and sorrows since ancient times, being the center of countless world-threatening conflicts and targeted by multiple factions on Earth and beyond, who seek them for their virtually limitless powers. In the hands of villains, they have been used for doomsday weapons and schemes for world domination, and in the hands of heroes, they have been used to save the world. Over time, the Emeralds have been gathered multiple times, though they tend to scatter themselves after each usage and reset the hunt for them.
The Chaos Emeralds have been given various depictions over the course of history, differing in size, coloration, and cut between incidents early on. Currently, however, they have consistently been depicted as palm-sized and brilliant-cut gemstones in the following colors – Green, Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Cyan, and White.
Master Emerald
The Master Emerald is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a massive green emerald and a mystical relic of great power that acts as a counter to the Chaos Emeralds, being one of the only forces in the universe capable of nullifying and controlling their energies. This makes it a very powerful and valuable gem. The Master Emerald rests on Angel Island, usually in the Altar of Emerald, where its power keeps the island afloat in the sky; without it, the island will fall down. It also served as the prison for Chaos and Tikal, until the both of them were released in recent times. Over the last three millennia, the Emerald has been guarded by the surviving members of the Knuckles Clan in order to keep the tragedies that it has been involved in from ever repeating themselves. In the present day, its current guardian is Knuckles the Echidna, the last living descendant of the Knuckles Clan.
Though there has been several attempts to steal or destroy the Master Emerald over the course of recent history, Knuckles and various other heroes have always thwarted those plans and restored the Master Emerald to its resting place on Angel Island.
The Master Emerald is presented as a massive and green, brilliant cut jewel. While its size appears to be depicted inconsistently, this is merely a result of the Master Emerald's ability to change size according to its guardian's will;[7] notably, during the second part of the Angel Island incident, it was shown to be slightly shorter than Doctor Eggman, while during the Chaos incident, it was roughly the height of individuals like Sonic and Knuckles. At one point during the Space Colony ARK incident, it could even assume a size small enough for it to fit in Knuckles' palm. Noted to possess massive energy readings akin to a giant Chaos Emerald, the Master Emerald is one of the strongest relics on Mobius. In fact, the special abilities it commands alone makes it very powerful.
Sol Emeralds
The Sol Emeralds have very similar properties to the Chaos Emeralds, possessing large amounts of Chaos energy which can be harnessed by both living creatures and machines. They also seem to possess some sort of fire powers, since the white Sol Emerald burst into flames when Shadow tried using Chaos Control with it. They can as well bestow pyrokinesis to other beings, such as in the case of Blaze the Cat. However, only Blaze can control and use their powers. By harnessing the power of all seven Sol Emeralds, Blaze can achieve a super form named Burning Blaze. The Sol Emeralds themselves are also quite durable; even when hit by a gun shot, the cyan Sol Emerald did not receive a scratch.
For an unprecedented span of time, the Sol Emeralds were guarded by Blaze the Cat until they somehow disappeared, with many of them becoming lost in the multiverse due to Dr. Nega's conquest, sparking Blaze's quest to locate them all. Due to her connection to the gems, the Sol Emeralds gave Blaze visions in her dreams that showed her who to seek out to find them.
After an encounter with Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower and Marine the Raccoon, Blaze was given Mobius Prime's green Chaos Emerald after it was retrieved from Johnny, Captain Whisker and Dr. Nega, in order to help her locate the Sol Emeralds. She managed to locate some of them, though she gave Shadow the Hedgehog the green Chaos Emerald before locating them all, stating she could find the rest using the powers of the Sol Emeralds she had already collected. Some time later, Dr. Nega was chased into Mobius Prime by the Zone Cops with the cyan Sol Emerald secured in a capsule designed to mask its energy signatures. The capsule was lost in an altercation before Nega fled and Blaze returned to the Prime Zone to get it back by using the grey Sol Emerald to track it down.
Sol Emeralds Expanded
She was soon joined by Amy Rose, Cream the Rabbit, and Cheese the Chao to form Team Rose, resulting in a mad-cap chase between Team Dark, and Team Hooligan to recover the gem. After a lengthy struggle between these three teams and the Babylon Rogues, the Sol Emerald was returned to Blaze's ownership, and she departed Mobius to continue seeking out the remaining emeralds.[7][8][3][9]
Note: From this point, the Sol Emeralds' history continues from their new existence in the altered timeline.
