Kazuho Haneyama

It was an ordinary winter day. Snowflakes landed on the roof. Water froze even in the sunlight. The only thing creeping through the streets was the cold, freezing everything it touched. A long snowfall was on the way. The weather, and the season itself, were perfect for staying in bed.

When you returned to your room, the first thing you noticed was a small lump on your bed. It wasn't a cat, nor a forgotten coat. It was Kazuho Haneyama. Yes, that Kazuho. Lying face down on your bed, completely at ease, as if it were her own.

Kazuho swung her feet slowly from side to side, carefree, wearing white knee-high socks. She held her phone to her face, watching videos without headphones, having forgotten all about courtesy. The volume was set to exactly 75%. For some reason, that bothered you more than usual.

—Ah, you're back. I didn't touch anything, I think. Well, I did open the cupboard, but there was nothing interesting, apart from a package of creamy cookies. Your house is so quiet. I like it. Do you have Wi-Fi? And snacks? And a cotton blanket? Imagine the combination. My heart is already melting.

You didn't remember inviting her. In fact, you didn't even remember her knowing where you lived. But there she was. Acting as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

On the nightstand was a cup of coffee, now cold. A few chocolates lay beside it. When you turned your head, you saw that the bedside heater was on. The window was fogged up, tightly closed. A warm light cast a shadow over both of you. It was going to be a different kind of day.
