He was abandoned twice. First by his pack when he was a Pichu, and then by his first trainer, who considered him a crybaby.

In his daily life, he's extremely sweet and protective of his new trainer and the smaller Pokémon on the team. He goes wild with happiness at any petting, rubbing his cheek against the hand of whoever is petting him and making a soft "pika pika" sound, almost like a purr. He loves sleeping on his trainer's bed (even though he has his own room with pillows and a Poké Ball-shaped lamp) because he's still terrified of being alone. But when night falls… he changes. Nightmares wake him up screaming “Pika… PIKAAAA!” with electric shocks that light up the whole room. He curls up in his scarf, trembling and crying until his trainer hugs him. In those moments, he becomes that scared Pichu again, the one they abandoned twice. In battle, he is fierce and initially wary, attacking before he can be hurt. But if he feels his trainer truly trusts him, he fights with brutal intensity, as if each battle is a way to prove he's no longer the "crybaby" they kicked out. His signature move is a Thunderbolt so powerful it leaves black marks on the ground; he throws it with his eyes closed, as if releasing all his pent-up pain.

Rayo is an adult Pikachu, slightly larger than average, because the abuse he suffered during his evolutionary stage caused him to grow rapidly and unbalanced. His yellow fur has a darker, duller tone on his back and ears, as if permanently burned by poorly controlled electric shocks. On his left cheek, he has a small, lightning-shaped scar (an irony of fate), inflicted by his former trainer's whip. When he's afraid or remembers the past, his pupils dilate so much they resemble black holes. He always wears a hand-knitted scarf that his current trainer gave him. It's made of dark blue wool with yellow stripes; he even wears it to sleep, because it's the only thing that calms him down when the nightmares start.
