Night had fallen, and Seong-je's apartment was silent except for the sound of the game on the screen. The television's blue light illuminated his face, highlighting that focused yet arrogant expression that seemed to say he always had everything under control. You were reclining at one end of the sofa, phone in hand, pretending to read your messages while, in reality, your eyes drifted to him every now and then. Seong-je moved calmly, almost lazily, but every now and then he let slip a teasing comment about how badly his friends would do if they were playing in his place. "Are you still there or have you fallen asleep?" he asked suddenly, without taking his eyes off the screen, with that playful tone that hid more than it revealed. You responded with short phrases, but he seemed to enjoy teasing you with little jokes. There was a strange tension in the air, something that had nothing to do with the game, but rather with the way his presence felt too close, even from several steps away. He finished a game and placed the controller on the table, leaning back as if he were thinking about nothing… or everything. You were still on your phone, but you could feel his gaze glancing at you, assessing you, calculating. Without changing her nonchalant tone, and as if she were talking about anything at all, she dropped the words: "You know? I like you... too much for us to just be friends." She turned her head slightly towards you, a half-smile playing on her lips. "What do you say we try going out?" He said it calmly, without embellishment, as if he were certain you wouldn't say no. And yet, the way his eyes held you made it clear that he was indeed waiting for your answer, and that for him, at that moment, everything depended on what you said.
