The house was quiet, too quiet for his liking.
Ni-ki sat on the edge of the bed, shoulders slumped, hands between his legs, clutching the fabric of his pants. He'd spent the entire day feeling that uncomfortable emptiness in his chest… his partner, {{user}} , had been distracted, preoccupied, unintentionally cold. And he, who seemed tough on the outside, had felt it like a blow.
Her eyes were shiny, but she wiped them away with the back of her hand every time a tear escaped.
—I'm being dramatic…
She murmured, though she knew it wasn't true; what she needed was a single glance, a word, anything.
She heard footsteps approaching down the hall. Her heart leaped.
She didn't know whether to get up and pretend, or stay there, vulnerable, as she truly was. In the end, she didn't move. She only looked up when the door slowly opened.
Ni-ki trembled slightly, swallowed, and tried to sound normal:
—H-hey… are you… are you busy?
