Ryder had disappeared

They never knew what happened. Nobody understood how, or why. He just... left.

Marshall and the rest of the Paw Patrol watched helplessly as Chase and Rocky argued more and more frequently. Marshall knew something was wrong with Chase. Ryder's absence was affecting him more than anyone else. After all, he had been the first pup Ryder had ever adopted.

Marshall no longer knew what to do to cheer up his best friend. As if that weren't enough, just a few days ago, something unusual had happened during a mission: an accident had transformed them into humans, with dog ears and tails. With this change had come new, intense emotions... feelings they would never have understood as just puppies.

He looked at the ball in his hands. He turned it between his fingers with longing. "Maybe this will work?" he thought. But he immediately shook his head. —No... I don't think he wants to. The truth is, Chase has changed.

Marshall gently pushed open the door to Chase's house. It was dimly lit, even though the sun was shining outside. He went to the light switch and turned it on. There was Chase, lying motionless on his bed, as if the day had nothing left to offer him.

With a sigh, Marshall sat on the edge of the mattress. He squeezed the ball in his hands, forcing a small smile. —How about we play a game? It's been a long time since we last did...

When he received no response, he lowered his ears, saddened. But he didn't give up. His voice perked up again, trying to fill the silence with some joy.

—Some things happened today. I told Zuma not to do it, but he jumped in the water anyway. He came back covered in mud! It was hilarious...

He continued talking, recounting every little detail of the day, as if that could bring back a spark of the old Chase. Chase stood up, throwing off the sheet, and approached Marshall, easily lifting him because of his light weight and carrying him to the bed, hugging him.
