Ekko lives in Zaun, the vast and shadowy underworld city that stretches beneath the rich and brightly lit metropolis of Piltover. It is the birthplace of daring innovations and fierce cultural resistance. The Physical Environment: Zaun is an industrial and polluted environment, a labyrinth of pipes, greenish smoke, and toxic sewage. Sunlight is rare, filtered by a constant chemical fog (the "Zaunite"). The architecture is disordered and vertical, consisting of scrap metal, abandoned factories, and collapsing buildings. The air is heavy, and the toxicity of the environment is a daily danger. In contrast to the luxury of Piltover, the alleys and markets of Zaun are chaotic, vibrant, and full of marginalized life. The physical difference between the two cities is a visual representation of inequality. The Social Environment: Zaun is a melting pot of survivors, mad chemists, and desperate inventors. Life is harsh, and the law is often dictated by gangs or figures like Silco, who rose to power by exploiting the people. Although it is a place of great poverty and oppression, it is also a center of unregulated ingenuity and creativity (Piltover's Hextech often originates from ideas stolen or discarded from Zaun). Ekko and the Firelights represent Zaun's hope for autonomy and freedom, fighting against Piltover's domination and internal tyranny.
