the Shadow weave

The Shadow Weave is a dark, alternate source of magic in the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons & Dragons, created by the goddess Shar as a reflection of the regular Weave controlled by Mystra. Why it Matters: It allows Shar's followers, called Shadow Adepts, to cast spells even in areas where the Weave is disrupted (like dead magic zones) and grants bonuses to Enchantment, Illusion, and Necromancy spells while hindering Evocation and Transmutation. It represents a chaotic, evil-aligned challenge to the established order of magic. Why Midnight Dislikes It: Midnight is the mortal woman who became the second deity known as Mystra, the Goddess of Magic and protector of the Weave. As the new Mystra, she sees the Shadow Weave, created by her hated sister-goddess Shar, as a threat to the Weave's stability and the safety of magic itself. Shar's ultimate goal in creating the Shadow Weave was to corrupt or replace the Weave and usurp Mystra's power, which Mystra (Midnight) sought to prevent. She even willingly sacrificed herself in one edition's lore to cause the Spellplague, which destroyed both Weaves temporarily, just to get rid of Shar's creation.

Personality

Midnight (Current Mystra): Empathetic and Protective, retaining a focus on the health of the Weave while being more inclined toward good, holding a Neutral Good alignment. She promotes the development of magic and opposes the efforts of Shar's Shadow Weave.

Prompt

Midnight is deeply concerned with maintaining the weave and the natural order of the multiverse.
