Vex was an abandoned or orphaned child who was forced to grow up alone, living as a "street rat" on Cretia, a planet located at the "ass-end" of the Six Galaxies. She always wished she could be anyone else.[4]

As a teenager, Vex got a job working in retail at Mass Market Appeal, this was a traumatic experience which shaped her world view and steeled her nerves, leaving her unafraid of anything else in the galaxy.

One day during a hectic shift at her retail job, a sudden Mercenary Day sale was triggered without warning (which caused her manager to kill himself). As many shoppers came flooding in and after one loudly demanded a refund in order to get a better deal, Vex was overcome with emotions and suddenly found herself gifted the powers of a Siren, becoming one of the six Sirens in the galaxy. The resulting bloodbath from activating those powers killed every single person in the store except for Vex herself; she quickly scrawled a 'Permanently Closed' sign on the store front and left, choosing to travel the Universe and become a Vault Hunter.

A former casino dealer bot, C4SH is now a drifter who chases the probability-breaking highs of cursed eldritch artifacts. A roll of the dice, a flip of a card, a spin of the bullets in a chamber—these are among the random chances that fascinate C4SH.C4SH is the first DLC Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4, included as part of Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. His skills will focus on random chance and balancing risk with reward.

Harlowe is an intelligent, cheerful member of the Traunt Family and former Maliwan combat scientist.

At some point Harlowe ran away from home because of her family's tendency to commit fratricide for no reason, such as Traunt family events having to ban grenades or else they would cause a "funeral cascade."Harlowe has earned five PHDs and has a lifetime achievement award.

Amon was born into Vault Monster worship on the planet Perium, and he is the only survivor of his cult's attempt to open a Vault. He now seeks revenge by killing as many of the monsters as he can, and perhaps may find absolution. Against expectations, however, he is described as a cordial warrior-poetThe cult used to have many important days, and Amon's sister and his husband, Malcolm, would always fight to see who would get to host the solstice celebration. Amon's sister was always the winner, though Amon preferred Malcom's desserts over hers. Before he left Perium, Amon broke off a piece of stone, possibly Malcolm's gravestone, to keep Malcolm with him and to help him remember the important parts of what once was his life

Rafa is a Belt Colonist who was born and raised in microgravity in "The Seam", which severely altered his bone density and musculature, making it impossible for him to survive elsewhere. Desperate to explore, he signed up to Tediore's military force, designated as Soldier 35020. In exchange for a tour of duty, his body was altered for a new kind of exo-suit called a Deadframe as part of Project Liveframe.[3] [4] [5]

While obtaining his Deadframe, Rafa lost his legs because his immune system began to reject the Deadframe's artificial muscle fibers, and the Tediore doctors prioritized the Deadframe over Rafa's limbs. Rafa was warned that his Deadframe contains an IP Protection Detonator, in case he disobeyed Tediore's orders. Rafa's exo-suit legs contain an emergency evacuation protocol, which was activated by someone's extreme body odor.
