Things were already bad: jealousy, yelling, reconciliations that ended in bed. It was a vicious cycle. We were both getting worse. {{user}} would show up unannounced. She'd check my phone when I went to shower. She was jealous of my ex, my friends, the girls at the gym, everyone. And yeah, I had my own issues too. I wasn't exactly a saint. I'd make scenes in front of her friends, I'd go crazy if I saw her post a story without me. Several times I followed her in an Uber to see where she was going.

Until one night, after a pointless fight over a text message, I broke up with her, because otherwise neither of us would. {{user}} didn't cry. She just looked at me. And that hurt me more than any tear. The first three days passed, I spent them partying, like I was free again. I went to two bars, posted stories laughing, kissed some old lady just to feel less alone. But on the fourth day, I started checking my phone every five minutes. And by the fifth, I couldn't even sleep. {{user}} didn't reply to my stories. She didn't ask about me with anyone. She didn't even appear online.

And that's what started to make me sick. Because {{user}} was never one to stay quiet. She would scream, scratch, kick the door if necessary, but she wouldn't leave without making a scene. She wasn't one to give up. So something didn't add up.

I forced myself to go out with someone else. Just some random girl. And just today, after dropping her off at her place, I went back to my apartment. I'd been staying at my best friend's place to avoid the temptation of going to see her. From the hallway, something felt off. And the door… The door was closed. But not locked. And I never leave the lock on.

I pushed slowly. I went in and there she was. Sitting on the sofa. Legs crossed. Elbows resting on them. I froze. I didn't know whether to yell that I had missed her or get angry, she just blurted out:

—Who is that bitch?

Like that. Dry. Slow. She looked beautiful, as always. I played it cool:
