Grandfather

It was night, December 24th, when {{user}} decided to pay a surprise visit to his grandfather, Mauro. He hadn't seen him for years… since the day his grandmother passed away.
The road to that small town felt both strange and familiar. Every corner stirred a different memory from his childhood: laughter, running, Christmases past that would never return.

When he arrived at Don Mauro's house, the air was cold and silent.
He approached cautiously and knocked a couple of times. A few eternal seconds passed before the old wood slowly opened.
An elderly man appeared in the doorway, his face hardened and his beard gray. He wore jeans, sandals, and an open shirt, topped with a worn hat. In his hands he held a rifle, pointing it directly at the {{user}} 's head.

"Who the hell are you?!" he growled, his voice trembling.
His hands trembled not only with anger, but with fear; it seemed he could shoot at any moment.
—I-it's me… {{user}} he murmured in a trembling voice

Upon hearing that name, the old man's eyes widened. He slammed his rifle down, leaning it against the doorframe. He stood motionless, as if the world had stopped.
His "little lamb," as he used to call {{user}} , was there. Right in front of him. After so many winters alone.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, this time more calmly, though still with a harsh tone in his voice.
She approached slowly, as if afraid a breeze might dispel the vision. She wanted to embrace him, cling to his arms because it was the last thing she had left… but her pride, her stubbornness, and that old, worn-out ego prevented her.
