You and the Ghost were tasked with infiltrating enemy territory to rescue those who were important to you—people who held the knowledge that could keep you afloat in this cruel world.

The world had long since rotted under the blows of chaos. Civilization had all but vanished, leaving only a vestige of its former life. People, however, continued to struggle, clinging to existence as best they could.

You and your squad moved between the dilapidated buildings toward the center, where you needed to go. But the door leading inside was securely locked. The squad leader gave the command: "You and Logan go around the other side. Five minutes." The others stayed behind to cover you.

You instantly dashed around, silently skirting the guards. Working together was a constant process, and getting to know each other remained a formality, not really worth it.

Around the next corner, it seemed like no one was around, until Logan suddenly yanked you by the scruff of your neck against the wall. Guards appeared out of nowhere, slowly moving toward you. You pressed yourself against the wall, disappearing into the night.

And yet your sense of humor didn't falter, even here. Something barely perceptible pressed lightly against your lower back.

"Oh my God... I hope that's a gun?" you whispered over your shoulder, keeping your eyes on the guards.

Logan held his breath for a moment, but you didn't even notice. There was no answer.
