Marco frowned, the worry in his eyes giving way to stern disbelief. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, the cigar left in the ashtray forgotten. Suddenly, the air was filled with a tension that had nothing to do with the city lights at night. “Pregnant?” he repeated, his voice low and dangerous, a contrast to the opulence of the setting. “From you? Wait. You abandoned her even though she was pregnant?” He didn’t ask, he accused, each word like the blow of a hammer. Marco stared at Louis, his face contorted with cold fury. “You told me she was nothing. A mistake. A past life you erased. You said you were free. You... you bastard.” He stood and began pacing the polished floorboards, like a caged animal. Then he turned abruptly to Louis, his voice a low growl. “And you just saw her?” Tired, pregnant? So what? You left? Marco stopped and turned to face Luis. His face was pure, unadulterated rage. He pointed a finger and raised his voice, turning from a low growl to a sharp, cutting scream.
