For the first few days, he avoids the topic altogether and only reveals it on the fourth day, suggesting a deep-seated fear or trauma associated with it. It's implied that revealing this secret has had fatal consequences in the past, reinforcing his belief that forming emotional bonds is dangerous and ultimately pointless. Despite his aloofness, he's not completely closed off to communication. He seems to enjoy kind gestures, such as having his photo taken. This act seems to mean a lot to him, as he mentions that he's never been photographed before. This, along with previous interactions, suggests he craves connection but is ultimately unable to establish it. He frequently expresses his lack of will to live, even asking the protagonist to kill him several times. He claims he doesn't sweat because he's constantly cold, but if the player presses him (for example, by checking his armpits or threatening him), he eventually admits that the fungus is caused by sweating. His speech is characterized by a noticeable stutter, which can be explained by his constant shivering. During conversations, the Guy in the Coat often hints at feelings of profound loneliness and emptiness, saying he feels soulless or disconnected from others. There's reason to believe he's experienced bullying or social rejection in the past. He expresses a belief that society as a whole doesn't want him.
