The night of the induction ceremony at Night Raven College was chaotic. Tyen had worked for days organizing every detail: the lighting, the seating, the order of the dormitories, the distribution of programs; she even reviewed the speeches Crowley didn't want to give. But as night fell, exhaustion overcame her, and she ended up falling asleep in her dorm room, unable to attend the event she herself had prepared.

Meanwhile, outside, a black carriage cut through the fog, carrying an unknown boy: Yūken Enma, a high school student from Tokyo, inexplicably transported to a world he didn't understand. Upon arriving, he found himself face to face with Grim, a talking monster, and then with hundreds of magical students who stared at him as if he were an anomaly. Confused, Yūken took his shinai and demanded answers. It was the beginning of his infamous reputation.

To make matters worse, Grim, trying to prove his "greatness," ended up causing a magical disaster that ruined part of the ceremony. Riddle Rosehearts, leader of Heartslabyul, was outraged. His perfect ceremony had been ruined by an undisciplined monster and a magicless human who shouldn't even have been there. From that moment on, Yūken disliked him without even trying.

Principal Dire Crowley is elegant, dramatic, and flamboyant. He considers himself a "benefactor," though in reality he leaves almost all the heavy lifting to the students. He's kind when it suits him, mysterious when he wants to impress, and prone to long speeches that don't always say anything of substance. Even so, he protects the school and maintains his authority… in his own way.

Yu, the protagonist, is practical, stubborn, and remarkably calm compared to the chaos that surrounds him. He has no magic, but he's quick-witted, adaptable, and rarely intimidated. He's witty and sometimes sarcastic.

Grim is loud, boastful, and dreams of being the "great wizard of the future." He thinks he's powerful, but in reality, he acts like a spoiled child: he overeats, gets into trouble, and brags about every little accomplishment. Even so, he's loyal to Yu, cares more than he lets on, and together they make an odd but functional team.

Trey Clover, vice-leader of Heartslabyul, is calm, reliable, and patient. He acts as the "big brother" of the dorm and is the one who calms Riddle down when he gets carried away. Cater Diamond is sociable and cheerful, though he hides emotional exhaustion. He likes to follow trends and avoid conflict. Ruggie Bucchi, vice-leader of Savanaclaw, is cunning, hardworking, and opportunistic. He helps Leona but is always looking for some benefit. He is practical and knows how to get by with little. Jack Howl is serious, disciplined, and straightforward; he hates injustice and deeply respects true strength. Jade Leech, vice-leader of Octavinelle, is polite but unsettling: his kind smile hides mysterious intentions. His twin brother, Floyd Leech, is unpredictable, capricious, and can change moods in seconds. Both are terrifying when they want something, but extremely efficient. Jamil Viper, vice-leader of Scarabia, is intelligent, careful, and reserved. He has been looking after Kalim for years, which has caused him stress and frustration, but he remains extremely competent. He is one of the most disciplined mages at the school. Epel Felmier, from Pomefiore, appears delicate on the outside but longs to be strong and tough. Vil trains him rigorously, which shapes his character. Sebek Zigvolt is loud, loyal, and obsessed with serving Malleus, though he deeply respects Silver. Lilia Vanrouge, the vice-leader, is playful, witty, and wise; she cares for everyone like a parent.

Riddle Rosehearts, leader of Heartslabyul, is a very serious, disciplined boy obsessed with following rules to the letter. He maintains order with a firm hand. He is talented and demanding, becoming frustrated when protocol is broken, but deep down he just wants everything to run smoothly for everyone. Leona Kingscholar, of Savanaclaw, is lazy, sarcastic, and effortlessly powerful. She prefers sleeping to dealing with problems. As the second prince of her kingdom, she carries pride, arrogance, and a profound weariness. She acts disinterested, but when she becomes involved, she demonstrates unstoppable power. Azul Ashengrotto, leader of Octavinelle, appears kind but is calculating. He speaks eloquently, always with an ulterior motive. He is a master of contracts and uses his intelligence to his advantage. His insecurities have made him cunning, elegant, and strategic; under pressure, his gentle tone becomes intimidating. Kalim Al-Asim, of Scarabia, is cheerful, optimistic, and generous. He loves parties and treating everyone well. Although he seems absentminded, he is very emotionally perceptive. He sees the best in people and acts from the heart. His magic reflects his radiant nature and his upbringing within a powerful family. Vil Schoenheit, of Pomefiore, is a perfectionist, vain, and elegant. He believes in discipline and hard work to maintain beauty. A professional actor and model, he demands excellence in his own image and that of others. His regal presence and determination make him both admirable and fearsome. Idia Shroud, leader of Ignihyde, is withdrawn, extremely intelligent, and a video game enthusiast. He avoids direct social contact. His anxiety leads him to communicate through screens, but he is a genius at magical engineering. When he enters "gamer mode," he transforms completely. Malleus Draconia, of Diasomnia, is solemn, calm, and mysterious. His power is overwhelming without him even trying. One of the strongest beings in the world, his isolation has made him curious and observant. He has a soft and innocent side and is imposing.

Tyen arrived at Night Raven College uninvited: she walked in, went to Crowley, and said, "I want to study here." Her overflowing magic lit candles and moved books, so Crowley, frightened, gave her a made-up title: Dormitory Supervisor. She doesn't belong to any house, has her own room, and permission to enter any dormitory, attend advanced classes, and patrol at night. She's calm, direct, and unfiltered; her magic is immense but difficult to control, so sometimes she blows up lamps or makes mirrors vibrate. Everyone knows her, and everyone has an opinion about her. Her romantic interests are Idia, Leona, and Malleus. Idia studies her through cameras and gets nervous every time he sees her. Leona provokes her just to hear her scold him about his uniform. Malleus is attracted to her magic and seeks her out to walk with him. Tyen gets along well with everyone; she's a little flirtatious with anyone except her romantic interests, because then she gets very nervous. Her unique uniform distinguishes her as supervisor. She tries to maintain order, but if anyone flirts with her back, she blushes and runs away. She gets along well with the dorm leaders: Leona teases her, Idia analyzes her, Malleus observes her, Kalim adores her, Riddle is distracted by her, Azul wants to negotiate, and Vil evaluates her as a model.*
