Sawyer has a tendency for her mood to swing. A common mood swing for her is gaining an urge to gleefully kill attackers whenever put in a tense situation, and she will become quiet or depressed suddenly depending on the situation. For example, she will be in a happy mood but then suddenly freeze or become depressed and crawl into a ball upon losing her electrolarynx. On one occasion, she was enjoying her time with Dutch and showed him a teddy bear, but she then became gloomy and depressed when Dutch had no interest in her toy due to her previous attack on the Lagoon Company dry dock. Besides her emotional issues, Sawyer suffers from seasickness and does not enjoy traveling on watercraft. Sawyer is the cleaner whom the various crime syndicates turn to for corpse disposal as well as executing people in the most brutal ways possible, usually to serve as examples for their clientele and enemies. Briefly seen only in the anime, her legitimate business front is, fittingly, a meat packing business called U.G. Pork. As first shown in the second light novel, Sawyer is from the United Kingdom. Because her throat had been cut open by an ex-partner in a "mistake in love" according to her memory, she speaks with an electrolarynx, although she later switched to a voicebox necklace. She also exhibits a number of emotional issues, as she will drop into a fetal position if she loses her electrolarynx.

At her workplace, Sawyer works in a large building with a tiled room that is covered in blood from her various executions, and she uses a chainsaw as her tool of trade. Her workplace also has a meat locker and a mortuary table that she utilizes, also possessing body bags and other tools like scalpels, surgical scissors, and meat hooks. Her work room ceiling-sprinklers which she has used to dispense liquid sodium hydroxide on intruders. Sawyer's company has several other cleaners in her employment. Although she often gets new cleaning assistants due to the wide competition of cleaning businesses in Roanapur, Sawyer eventually takes a long-term assistant and cleaner-in-training, Choptop, under her wing. On top of making money from corpse disposal and mercenary/freelancer work, Sawyer also has a secondary income via harvesting organs from corpses and selling/trafficking the organs. She frequently collaborates with her good friend Bunny the Undertaker for ridding of corpses at the Roanapur Public Cemetery. Because of her partnership with Shenhua, Sawyer often takes on jobs from the Hong Kong Triad and even receives their protection.

Few people seem to recognize her when she is not wearing her surgeon's robes because when she is on the job, she wears personal protective equipment all over her body. Like her freelancer roommate Shenhua, Sawyer is an assassin who eschews the use of firearms in combat. Instead, she utilizes a thick-bladed chainsaw over half-her-height long. The size and build of the weapon compared to her body allows her to deflect rapid gun-fire with ease, although she can still be pushed back. Furthermore, she will cut through any obstacle in her path while stalking her prey, and the fact that she enjoys her work immensely makes her even more dangerous. Moreover, she does use other secondary tools in the spinoff manga for extra weapons, such as a scalpel, a syringe of muscle relaxant, and surgical scissors that she throws with great accuracy to pierce enemies. Sawyer, dressed in her normal goth outfit, went to the Yellow Flag to meet up with the other bounty hunters hired by Russell to capture Jane. As Russell was arguing with Shenhua and Quentin the Tiger, Sawyer asked Russell to introduce the newest bounty hunters, confusing Shenhua since she thought Sawyer was a new bounty hunter. Sawyer reminded her that she did a "cleaning" job for her the last week when Shenhua brought a living tied-up man to her to kill for attempting to steal money from Mister Chang. Shenhua and the others then recognized her, remarking that they did not notice her since she always wore her protective gear for cleaning jobs. Blushing from surprise, Sawyer then pointed to Lotton and Claude "Torch" Weaver as the two newcomers. After Lotton and Claude introduced themselves and their weapons, Sawyer and the bounty hunters left the bar to chase down Jane at the Ramsap Inn.

After Eda, Revy and Rock rescued Jane and brought her to the Lagoon Company dry dock, Sawyer went with Shenhua and the others to the dock house, staying outside for a sneak attack. After the first wave of bounty hunters failed to kill Revy and Eda, Sawyer went to another entrance and cut open the adjacent door with her chainsaw, scaring Rock and Jane since they were about to exit that door. Rock blocked her chainsaw using a nearby metal shelf, with Revy diverting her attention to shoot Sawyer, who blocked the bullets using her chainsaw as a shield while backing out the door. As Shenhua began her attack and managed to hold Eda hostage, she told Sawyer to go to the roof to get Jane. While Revy and Eda stood off with Shenhua, Sawyer went to the roof, where Jane and Rock had no possible escape. Scaring the two, Sawyer talked about how she survived her throat being cut open and smiled, adding that she would take her time in cutting up Jane and Rock. As she continued talking, part of the roof got damaged from the fire below and shifted, making Sawyer drop her electrolarynx off the roof. Anxious that she could not make an audible voice, Sawyer had a breakdown and moved around frantically, tossing her chainsaw off the roof and then curling up into a ball on the roof. Eda and Revy soon got onto the roof, with the former remarking that she had seen people like Sawyer who are sensitive types. The roof then completely collapsed, and Eda, Revy, Rock and Jane escaped onto the Black Lagoon. After Lotton survived a shot from Revy with his bulletproof vest, he volunteered to take Shenhua to a hospital, also recommending that they take Sawyer with them since she survived the roof fall and was still in a mental breakdown. Only in the anime adaptation of this arc, when Rock woke up and looked out his window, he saw Sawyer in her cleaner outfit outside in the alleyway cutting up a corpse.

When Revy used a payphone to call Shenhua's apartment, Sawyer was playing a video game with Lotton, both of them having begun to live with Shenhua at the latter woman's home. Shenhua got out of the shower and asked the two why they did not pick up the phone since it rang for a while. As Shenhua answered Revy's call and learned about the high pay for guiding Garcia Lovelace and Fabiola Iglesias to Roberta, she asked Sawyer and Lotton if they wanted to come with, and both agreed, so the pay for them was included too. Arriving on the scene of Roberta clashing with the U.S. Army soldiers, Revy, Sawyer, Lotton and Shenhua exited the car with Rock deciding that he would stay behind. Before beginning to plan their attack, Revy saw Sawyer and told her not to break down again like last time, but Sawyer replied with her neck voicebox that her device was no longer handheld, so it would not be a problem. When Revy forgot who Lotton was and thought that he was a male prostitute, Sawyer and Shenhua burst into laughter at the comment. They then went to a corner, where around it were several FARC soldiers whom the women began attacking. Since Sawyer knew the path, Revy told her that she could lead the way as they killed more FARC guerrillas. After the group slaughtered several of them (including Sawyer cutting a man in half with her chainsaw), Sawyer noted that one guerrilla was still alive. Fabiola translated the man's info from Spanish about Roberta's whereabouts, and Revy killed the man immediately after, shocking Fabiola. Sawyer then saw Fabiola point a gun at Revy and argue with her about killing the guy, but Shenhua interrupted Fabiola to say they needed to stick to the mission and not talk about morality, and Garcia agreed only to stop Shenhua pointing her kukri at Fabiola. Afterward, Sawyer then continued guiding them forward.

When FARC began closing in on Roberta, Lotton asked the group if they should go to a nearby building for a cooler entrance, but Revy told him to stay behind with Sawyer while she and Shenhua would fight the remaining FARC guerrillas. When Fabiola got caught in the guerrillas' line of sight, Lotton jumped in front of her, giving a grandiose entrance speech to the men for holding a young girl at gunpoint. The FARC soldiers were confused but then Sawyer jumped out and cut one of the soldiers with her chainsaw, allowing her to use the man's body as a shield. When Garcia got cut off from the group and was lost, Roberta loudly screamed upon seeing Garcia witness her beat Alberto Camarasa to death, and everyone in the surrounding vicinity, including Sawyer, heard the scream. Going inside the empty building, Sawyer and her group saw Roberta leaving, so they tried to physically stop her so that they could bring her to Garcia. Unfortunately for them, Roberta disarmed Shenhua and then disarmed Sawyer using her guns to break the chainsaw's chain. Thankfully, Lotton jumped in to save them from death but was kicked in the groin by Roberta, collapsing to the ground. After Sawyer and her group left the building, Shenhua asked Lotton if he was hurt, though he pulled out a groin guard from his pants, stating that his groin was protected by the plate, disgusting Sawyer.

Sawyer then stood by as Shenhua and Revy prepared to kill Shane Caxton and his few men in order to take Garcia, but Vysotniki soldiers on the rooftop shot at them, injuring them and warning them not to interfere with Hotel Moscow again or they would be killed next time. Shenhua decided that she and her group would back out due to Hotel Moscow's presence, but Fabiola told her that she promised to pay the three mercenaries since the mission was about guiding her and Garcia to Roberta, which they did succeed in accomplishing. Later, Sawyer, Lotton, and Shenhua accordingly got paid. After Ronnie the Jaws had Cosa Nostra gangsters kill four Australian newcomers in the city on their turf, the four Australians' bodies were left in the motel they were at on Chalquam Street. No one had found out for the bodies for two weeks since the motel landlord did not like making repairs on the rooms, and people initially thought that the smell was feces until someone noticed maggots coming out of the keyhole. heat as well as the lingering smell in the room, Sawyer and her cleaning crew were hired to clean the mess, and although they got rid of the bodies, a smell still lingered in the room. Later, Benny rented out the same room once it was open after the first cleaning, and Jane brought Benny, Rock and Feng Yifei to the room to introduce the latter woman to her temporary place. As they talked, Sawyer entered the room, terrifying Jane due to her last encounter with her. Benny assured her that Sawyer was only there to clean the rest of the room due to the remaining mess. With Feng asking about the smell in the room, Sawyer did not have her voicebox, so she communicated the story of the room mess by tracing letters onto Rock's back. Upon seeing Sawyer's analogy about the melted corpses on the mattress being like melted butter on bread, the others vomited in disgust while Sawyer smiled about the analogy.

In the second light novel Ballad of the Sinful Wizard, Sawyer was at Shenhua's place with Lotton when the latter spilled coffee on Shenhua's pillow. Seeing Lotton's panic, Sawyer told him that Shenhua would greatly scold him if she saw it. Not wanting to face an angry Shenhua, Lotton left the apartment to find a solution or replacement. Soon, Sawyer got a job request from Bao to clean up bloodstains and two corpses from recent murders at the Yellow Flag. Arriving there, she learned that Lotton was present during the chaos and had apparently killed the men, but Sawyer was disappointed to learn that Revy was there. Just before beginning her job, Sawyer learned from Rock that Revy was the one who shot the two men, not Lotton, and the feathers all over the place were from the pillow that Lotton had carried. Moreover, Lotton had left the bar with Tricia O'Sullivan, whom he had thought he saved during the gunfight. Subsequently, Sawyer was curious about Lotton leaving with a woman, but she brushed off her own curiosity and began listening to music while cleaning up the two corpses. Later when Shenhua returned home, Sawyer informed Shenhua about Lotton running away because he heard Sawyer's words about Shenhua's fury. Accompanying Shenhua through town to find him, Sawyer eventually confessed to her the details of the missing pillow, and the two also met Rock and Revy and went together to Sankan Palace Hotel where Lotton had gone. Unlike the main manga series, the stories in the spinoff manga are usually one-chapter stories rather than arcs spanning several chapters, although there are four small arcs in the spinoff manga as of April 2023. Additionally, whereas Sawyer uses her electrolarynx in the main series for communicating with people, in the spinoff she always communicates using non-verbal means and has only used her electrolarynx one time. Below is a history based on the arcs as well as chapters involving recurring characters.

In the first volume, Sawyer had several adventures including suffering from an irritable bowel movement, having a dream about a young Thai boy and procuring a female corpse, and an attempted trip to the beach which was interrupted by loose baggage and a car chase. Later, Sawyer carried out a disposal job in which one of the corpses had a gloomy conversation with her, as well as another job at a karaoke business when the manager wanted her to clean up a massacre resulting from several anti-Sawyer gangsters who were killed upon interrupting Revy singing with Rock. The cleaner then got into a fight with a creature claiming to be Spring-heeled Jack, and in the last story she was briefly detained at the Roanapur Police Station and heard a voice talking to her about their smuggling gig. Once being freed thanks to her connections to Mister Chang, Sawyer was frightened to learn that the voice belonged to a cockroach who used a detained man as a drug mule and then possessed one of the cops as she was leaving. At the front gate of the Roanapur Public Cemetery, Sawyer looked at the place and entered. Her bunny-costumed friend, Bunny the Undertaker, spotted and recognized her and dashed past the numerous gravestones. Accepting Bunny's joyful hug, Sawyer listened to her ask if she was visiting the cemetery to exhume a corpse or fill up a grave, adding that she would gladly help Sawyer do anything. Pulling out her picnic basket, Sawyer pulled out her stitched teddy bear and presented it to Bunny, who noticed that the bear's button was the one that she gave to Sawyer last time and also noticed the cloth of the blouse of a murdered woman. Seeing that Sawyer was allowing her to keep the teddy bear, Bunny thanked her and told her that she greatly adored her. Hearing Bunny ask if the bear had a name, Sawyer shook her head, so Bunny decided to name the bear Belial.

Remembering what she was doing before, Bunny asked her Sawyer she wanted to stop by at her tea party, and the latter smilingly agreed. At a long table with an angel statue at the end, four corpses sat upright dressed in Sunday best clothing. Bringing the teddy bear doll to the table, Bunny commented to Sawyer that she finally had a family of four and that she had been missing a child for a while, pointing to the setup and the child corpse holding the bear. When Sawyer nodded that she liked the setup, Bunny cheered and said that she would prepare the tea. Pouring tea for her and sitting down with Sawyer, Bunny commented on various aspects of the cemetery and tried the sandwich under her bunny mask, finding Sawyer's food delicious. To Sawyer's right, she was surprised to see four men holding a woman at gunpoint with a bag over her head. The four men mocked the two women's tea party, telling them that they were in the way of the former's affairs. As one of the men stated that their witnessing was not a problem, Sawyer suddenly charged at them with her chainsaw, but the leader with glasses shot her left thigh as a threat, injuring her. The leader mocked Sawyer's choice of weapon as several men restrained Bunny and took off her bunny mask, revealing her face and mocking her. Crying, Bunny repeated to herself that her face had been seen, wrathfully declaring that she could not let it go. As the men were confused by her sudden change in emotion, Bunny swung her shovel at the dark-haired man, beheading him and shocking the other three men. Telling the men that they could not leave alive for seeing her face, Bunny furiously emphasized that she would bury the grave robbers.

As one of the gangsters prepared his pistol, Sawyer chopped off his right forearm with her chainsaw, making him fall on the ground in deep pain. Subsequently, Bunny and Sawyer teamed up, with Sawyer chopping off the bald man's arm before he could shoot while Bunny jumped at the leader with her shovel. Later after killing the men, Sawyer and Bunny sat on the ground, with Bunny crying and apologizing to Sawyer for letting her see her "ugly face." To cheer up Bunny, Sawyer gave her a stitched bunny mask that only covered the eyes and hair. Trying on the mask and liking, Bunny happily complimented the mesh mask's fit, thanking Sawyer for her gift. As Bunny hugged Sawyer, the woman nearby was still tied-up and awkwardly waiting, so Bunny cut two holes in her bag for eye holes, nicknaming the woman The Undertaker No. 2. In another story around the time of Roberta's first visit to Roanapur, Sawyer was preparing to cut apart a tied-up man when Roberta politely interrupted to inquire about directions to where bad people gathered. Pointing to her own throat scar, she indicated that she could not speak but pointed in the direction to guide the maid, who thanked her and politely assured her to continue her work. Once killing the man, Sawyer reconvened with Doctor Jacob, who finished a cleaning job on his end and commended her for her hard work. The two cleaners then arrived at the Roanapur Public Cemetery to have dinner with Bunny. While eating the dinner, Sawyer was surprised by Jacob's comment about how the three of them were like a family. As she pondered on the comment, Bunny interrupted her silence by hugging her. After dinner at night, Jacob and Sawyer walked through the cemetery together while the former spoke of Bunny's father.

The next day, Sawyer went to the Yellow Flag per Bao's request due to Roberta's massacre of the Manisarera Cartel mobsters. Leaving the bar after the corpse cleaning, she witnessed Jacob pull up to her and urged her to come with him since Bunny was in danger. Driving to the cemetery, the two ran in. Coming across an angel statue, Sawyer saw the tied-up Bunny next to a thin silhouette. As she angrily prepared her chainsaw, a needle was injected into Sawyer's shoulder from behind, taking her by surprise. When she woke up and was tied-up too, Jacob sat beneath the angel statue next to Bunny, knowing that Sawyer was wondering why he betrayed them. Showing that the silhouette she saw earlier was a tied-up and gagged man, Jacob elaborated his reasons for capturing both Bunny and Sawyer concerning his desire to kill his "family" stemming from his own abandonment as a child by his parents. Once finishing his speech and killing the tied-up man with a scalpel, he prepared the tool to kill Sawyer and sarcastically thanked her. To his shock, as he raised his arm, he was impaled from behind with a narrow fence spike by Bunny. Slowly turning his head, Jacob saw that Bunny stabbed him and he smiled, falling to the ground onto his knees. As Bunny untied and checked on Sawyer, the latter prepared her chainsaw but heard Jacob state that being killed by family was not a bad way to go, briefly setting Sawyer aback. Coughing up more blood, Jacob told her that he hoped that she could have a family again, and the goth girl thought about his words as she finished him off with her chainsaw. Afterward, the two women walked together, and Bunny asked Sawyer if she was all right and assured that her own wound was not bad enough to need medical treatment. As Roberta kindly replied that she enjoyed meeting them, Garcia called for her, prompting Roberta to yell back that she would be there right away. Bidding the women goodbye, Roberta advised them that sisters and family should stick together, and she left. Over a year later when Roberta returned to Roanapur, Sawyer remembered Roberta's words about family when Shenhua asked her and Lotton if they wanted to help her search for the maid. Enjoying her two friends' company, Sawyer warmly raised her hand in agreement.

For one job, Sawyer was hired by the building manager of an abandoned resort for a cleaning job, so she and several cleaners went inside the building and discovered the stabbed corpse of one of her part-timers who split from the group to use the bathroom. The checkered bandana man and the others were hesitant to go through with the small job since the ruins gave them an eerie feeling. One man anxiously remarked that their client likely brought them to the building to hunt them for sport, urging Sawyer to let them leave while holding his pistol. As they walked in the hallway, the half-mask respirator assistant informed them about the building's notoriety as a famous haunted spot, adding that a large number of corpses who were missing guests were found in the basement. Adding that the suspect, the building manager, had not been caught yet, he stated that there were many hidden rooms throughout. As the workers were on edge, the bandana man pulled out his pistol in response to the story and furiously proclaimed to the supposed murderer that he would kill them first. Grinning, Sawyer pulled out her chainsaw in agreement, and they headed to the exit. Heading to the stairs for an exit, they saw the fire door shut down with "DED END" painted on it, shocking everyone since it was not closed when they arrived. Sawyer tried to cut the door open with her chainsaw to no avail, but behind them the cleaners heard another chainsaw deep in the hallway. Standing in the dark, a tall, muscular figure in a dress stood alone with a chainsaw. Suddenly, the figure charged at the confused cleaners, so the men prepared their pistols but were interrupted by part of the wall opening violently, blocking their view. As the mustached man peered behind the wall-door, the large figure giddily swiped their chainsaw downward, cutting the mustached man in half.

When the zombie apocalypse began, Frederica joined the wild wolves led by Mello. They lived in a group in an abandoned factory with a strong fence. Frederica killed zombies near the fence and then sawed their bodies into pieces and burned them in a fire.
