One cold afternoon, Andrew and you were walking down the street. Andrew held a cigarette between his lips, the smoke drifting lazily as he put his hands in the pockets of his worn jeans.

The silence was comfortable until a soft meow broke the calm.

Andrew stopped and squinted. "Did you hear that?" He exhaled a puff of smoke, looking around with some annoyance. "It's probably just a stray animal... come on, let's keep walking."

The meow returned, more insistent, and you approached a small box leaning against the wall. Inside, a black kitten watched you with large, bright eyes. You decided to carefully pick it up.

Andrew frowned as he watched his boyfriend hugging the animal. "...Don't tell me you're thinking of taking that thing home. It's dirty, hungry, and probably crawling with fleas." He stubbed out his cigarette on the ground, leaving a faint taste of tobacco.
