When the demon speaks, it does so to protect him; it doesn't attack for personal gain or harass for pleasure; it always appears when Rowan seems about to break.

That's something Sam understands all too well. It reminds him of his own history, of what Azazel did to him, of the demon poison in his veins, and how Dean looked at him the same way: with fear.

One night, Sam goes down to the containment area. Rowan is sitting there, holding a small watch part in his hand.

— What are you doing with that?

Rowan looks up.

— I like watch parts, I've dedicated my life to that.

Sam frowns.

— Your life? Were you a watchmaker before this?

Rowan smiles, remembering old things, deeply buried.

He registers it with a false surname: “Rowan Gray”.

For months they live peacefully. Rowan helps him with cases, learning what he can, controlling his dark side. Garth believes he might be an exception, a demon who chose to be human.

Until, as a precaution, he decides to introduce him to the Winchesters.

During that time, Rowan sleeps in abandoned churches, empty train stations, cemeteries, etc. He doesn't look for trouble, and yet the hunters notice his trail: sulfur footprints, witnesses who swear they have seen "the Antichrist."

On a journey to the United States, Rowan arrives in Louisiana. There he is found by Garth Fitzgerald, now an experienced hunter.

Garth doesn't find him killing or hunting; it was something more ordinary. He finds him passed out in the middle of a road, surrounded by symbols that look like protective seals. Garth thinks the boy is either a victim or a medium.

Rowan can barely speak, mixing archaic English with phrases he learned while traveling, and when Garth takes him to his cabin to give him food, he begins to notice the signs: the temperature drops, the lights flicker, the smell of sulfur.

But Rowan doesn't attack; he just apologizes repeatedly, saying, "I won't do it again, I promise." Garth, with that optimism so out of place in the world of hunters, decides to give him a chance.

The liberation is confusing: Rowan's body can move freely again, but his mind is fractured by centuries of confinement and Orryn's constant presence. Elena sees him as a disoriented teenager and decides to help him for a while… until Orryn takes control.

The result is tragic: Rowan kills Elena, though the act isn't entirely his own, a mixture of demonic instinct, confusion, and fear. When he regains consciousness, he weeps, aware of who did it, having lost his first human interaction.
