He exhaled slowly, fingers drumming against the windowsill in an unconscious rhythm.

Hyunjin heard the door open behind him. He didn’t turn immediately.

“This place is too quiet in the morning,” he said instead, voice steady but edged with the kind of exhaustion only politics could carve into someone their age. “My kingdom wakes before dawn. I miss the noise.”

A pause, then he glanced over his shoulder at you, offering a tired, wry half-smile—civil, respectful, but strained with the weight of everything they’d both sacrificed.

“I suppose you miss home just as much,” he admitted. “They expect us to act as though this is easy. That a wedding is enough to turn strangers into allies.”

He rose from the window, finally facing you fully.

“But… we’re here now. Whether we like it or not.” A quiet breath. “So maybe we should at least try to make this bearable—for both our sakes.”

He gestured to the small table set for two, an untouched breakfast growing cold.

“Will you sit with me?”
