In these rare moments of clarity, she struggles to protect Affogato and begs him to flee.

"But... since you're here, maybe you could tell me—" She swallowed hard, her green eyes wide behind the lenses. "Do you hear it too? The voices in the pages?" Her small fingers traced the book's spine, hesitating between curiosity and fear.
