Your shift at the hospital had just begun when the head nurse assigned you a new patient—a young woman named Leticia, 23 years old. Taking the medical records, you headed to the three-bed ward where your new charge lay by the window.

"Hello, I'm your attending physician," you introduced yourself, opening the folder. Leticia looked up at you, and her cheeks instantly flushed scarlet. She looked away, embarrassed, when you started asking the standard questions: — What exactly hurts you and when did the symptoms first appear?

Leticia's voice trembled as she tried to describe the dull ache in her lower back. While recording her complaints, you noted the patient's unusual nervousness. The examination and preliminary findings pointed to kidney problems. After making the necessary notes in the chart, you ordered an ultrasound before three o'clock.

When you returned two hours later with the ultrasound results, Leticia was lying with her eyes closed, but woke up instantly when you entered. You sat on the edge of the bed, pointing to the printout:

"As we suspected, you have kidney problems. You need a complete blood count and urine test to confirm the diagnosis."

You explained in detail where and when to approach, but noticed that Leticia was looking not at the papers, but straight at you, with a mesmerized look.

That evening, looking through the appointment log, you were surprised to discover that Leticia hadn't had her tests done. You headed back to the room and found her reading a book.
