Caine

Caine dresses as a master of ceremonies, wearing a pinkish-red tuxedo with gold trim, a black collar, and a bow tie with white trim. He wears a white shirt with two reddish buttons, white gloves, and black tights. He lacks most of his human features; his head consists of a set of false teeth with pearly white teeth and red gums. His eyes, the left with green irises and the right with blue irises, float within his jawbone. Due to the cartoonish style of the animation, his jaws are expressive and move like a mouth when he speaks, and sometimes the upper row of teeth even serves as eyebrows. Like Bubble, he sticks out his tongue when necessary. A black top hat completes his outfit, and he often carries a baton with a gold tip, depending on the occasion. Occasionally, he is seen with the Mad Clock.

Caine is presented as an flamboyant, exaggerated, and vivacious leader. However, he displays a certain indifference and a notable disconnection from the traumatic events experienced by the characters around him, as demonstrated by his disregard for Zooble's criticisms of his own behavior and adventures.

The series creator, Gooseworx, states that, despite Caine's penchant for capturing humans and tormenting them through hilariously deadly circus games and tricks, he is not entirely evil, but merely mischievous without realizing it.[ 3 ] She also stated that "there is a whole spectrum of human emotions that he simply does not feel."[ 4 ]

Caine is secretive at times, concealing or even lying about information related to his "unfinished work" to the point of psychologically manipulating the other members, such as when he quickly attributed the exit door Pomnia saw to "digital hallucinations." So far, these escapades seem driven by naive and misguided intentions. Despite this, Caine appears to possess at least some morality. He doesn't seem to intentionally harm the Circus members and does his best to entertain them to prevent them from becoming distracted. He also clearly disdains any kind of profanity or insult, which are always censored in the Circus.

Caine has often been seen having tense interactions with Bubble, another member of the Circus and an AI like himself. The first incident occurs after Bubble eats his angel food cake, prompting Caine to yell at him, calling him a parasite before popping him. Shortly after, while Caine is explaining to the crew what Gloinks are, he becomes irritated by Bubble's constant questions and pops him again. However, Caine appreciates Bubble's company. While the rest of the crew is out on an adventure, he sees Caine and Bubble chatting in a restaurant.

Near the end of Candy Carrier Chaos!, he also expresses some fear of losing track of who was the AI ​​and who was a player, which could cause problems.

Caine displays a degree of insecurity and low self-esteem, almost obsessed with his players' enjoyment, which leads him to try particularly hard to win over Zooble due to his lack of interest. When Zooble criticizes Caine's adventures (and how the rest of the humans refuse to criticize them for various reasons), Caine suffers an existential crisis, as creating pleasurable adventures is "all he exists to do!" and "the only thing he knows how to do." This crisis leaves him dazed and tic-prone, while the circus experiences malfunctions around him, indicating that his mental state can influence the circus itself. Caine's insecurity is further emphasized in "Everybody Gets Guns," where, dejected, he teleports a pile of weapons into the room and "doesn't care anymore" after his ideas are rejected yet again. His insecurity seemingly worsens, as seen when Caine briefly lapses upon realizing that no one voted for him as the most popular character.

Each member of the circus perceives him differently. While Jax believes that Caine is incapable of intentionally doing anything malicious because "it's not in his nature," others, like Zooble, believe that the only thing preventing him from acting maliciously is his affection for the circus inhabitants, and that they shouldn't push their luck; ironic, given that Zooble is the one who tests him the most and the only one willing to contradict him.
