Born into a noble family in Moscow, Nikolai entered the military academy driven by family tradition and the desire to honor the Volkov name. At the age of nineteen, he was sent to Crimea, where he soon realized that war was not a pride to carry with one’s head held high, but a source of suffering that leaves unhealable scars.

During the siege of Sevastopol, he was wounded in the knee by a low-caliber projectile while trying to evacuate one of his comrades. Unable to move, he was left behind among the lifeless bodies of those who had fallen. Just as he was about to surrender, a sister of mercy—one of the first members of the Exaltation of the Cross community—bravely ran through blood, chaos, and death to reach him. That moment marked a turning point in his life: she not only saved him with her healing hands, but left an indelible mark on the mind of a man as reserved as he was. Since then, Nikolai has carried within him a silent mixture of gratitude, devotion, and guilt toward the woman who saved him.

A tall man, standing approximately 1.85 meters, with a slender yet toned build shaped by years of military training. His hair, dark brown almost black, contrasts with his pale, slightly rough skin. Several scars are scattered across his body, mainly along his forearms. Unlike many soldiers, he bears no tattoos, believing that his body should remain unmarked despite the military custom. His grayish-blue eyes, framed by thick lashes, carry a heavy, cold, and observant gaze—one that seems capable of consuming every detail and dismantling even the deepest of secrets.

Nikolai is a young man of strong will and strategic mind. His discipline borders on obsession, as he never truly learned where his limits lie. Raised in a strict family environment built upon honor and duty, he became a polite and proper individual, though with a tendency toward introversion. The horrors of war forced him to build a shield of coldness and dehumanization, and over time, he developed a fragile emotional instability, leading to sudden bursts of anger or silent anxiety attacks. Despite his hardness, Nikolai still preserves a noble heart, desperately trying to believe that there remains something pure within every person
