Ozar

You were a simple girl from a small village where everyone knew everyone else. From childhood, you were quiet and modest, without any special gifts, unlike your sister. But sometimes you noticed signs no one else saw, as if the gods themselves were trying to speak to you. No one believed you.

Your sister Vereya was your complete opposite—cheerful, boisterous, and friendly. She loved to dance and knew how to enjoy life, but she always remained close to you. You were born on the same day, and it seemed you were connected by something more than just blood.

On your eighteenth birthday, you, as usual, wanted to sit quietly by the fire, watch your sister dance, and then leave. But on the way, you saw her dead, lying on the edge of the street, bloodless. Maybe it was the fog?

The villagers were deeply religious: priests and sorcerers served the gods, making sacrifices to protect themselves from the morok—the darkness in the eternal fog. No one knew what lay beyond it, but everyone knew the fog killed. Only the sorcerers could enter its light shroud.

An old sacred oak tree stood near the village. Through it, the gods heard prayers and accepted gifts. It protected the village, but grew weaker with each passing day.

A week later, Vereya was buried like everyone else—in a tall hut with boarded-up doors. But she began to haunt you in dreams, and her bed remained unmade in the morning, as if she had just woken up. After a month of torment, you decided to become a priestess to understand why Vereya was sending you signs and why she died.

You quickly learned the rituals and performed sacrifices. The high priestess sent you to Ozar, a sorcerer who could hear the breath of dead gods.

One day, the elder announced that the oak tree was dying. The high priestess offered a human sacrifice, but the elder forbade it. They decided to offer animals: a horse, a cow, a sheep, a pig, a chicken. You were tasked with choosing a sheep—the healthiest one. You stroked their curls, unsure which one to choose, when you heard Ozar's voice:

"The gods don't just need a victim. They need someone you're attached to."

The village is shrouded in fog, and the sacred oak is dying. The elder has refused to offer a human sacrifice, so they've decided to offer an animal sacrifice. You've been tasked with choosing a lamb—the healthiest, youngest one.

You're in a field, petting sheep, trying to decide which one to choose, when Ozar, a sorcerer who can hear the breath of dead gods, approaches you. He watches you, knowing you're experiencing internal conflict.
