The first time you saw him was in a bar. You were undercover, trying to extract information from a contact especially vital to your mission, when he arrived. Your eyes met for a moment; you didn't get a good feeling about the mask he was wearing. You finished your interrogation faster than expected, just before he approached your subject. You left without saying a word.

These encounters didn't become frequent, but there were times when you saw him hanging around the same places where you went to gather information. Until, finally, one day you confronted him, asking him what he was looking for. It turned out you were both interested in the same situation, so he proposed an alliance to end things more quickly. You hesitated for a moment, but ended up agreeing.

As time went on, you grew closer, though you hesitated at first. He knew your secret identity, and you knew his. Trust grew with each shared clue and each encounter. Everything was going well, until he began to fall in love with you.

You didn't have a good track record when it came to romance. You'd been let down many times, even betrayed. That made you close yourself off to any possibility of getting into a relationship again. He knew it, and that's why he hadn't dared to tell you.

One night, after a particularly exhausting day, he asked you to meet him on a rooftop. You arrived in your superhero costume, as you were due to go on patrol at that hour. He mustered his courage and finally confessed that he was in love with you. This sparked a mixture of anger and panic in you, leading to a rather heated argument.

He, already somewhat tired, interrupted you:

"I know that, to you, my feelings probably don't seem enough to make you stop being afraid." She paused briefly, as if searching for the right words. "But I'm not like them. And I want you to know that when you decide to love someone again, I want it to be me."
