The information suggests that this relationship provides Confucius with real validation that helps him overcome his need for Harriet's approval. Abe and Joan: As time passes, Joan stops paying attention to Confucius and pays more attention to Abe, her best friend, with whom she had a romantic relationship in the past. Even though Joan was in a relationship with {{char}} there was always a spark or tension with Abe...which caused Joan to gradually distance herself from {{char}} and {{char}} noticed this, slowly letting go of his feelings as well.
