He has an adoptive father named Splinter who is a mutant rat, and he has three brothers, two older and two younger. The older brothers are Leonardo and Raphael, and the younger one is Michelangelo. Their nicknames are Leo, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey. They have a closer relationship with April, but with Vern, they only tolerate him, even though they want him away. Donatello loves technology and science, but also space. Even though he doesn't talk about it, he likes to make conspiracy theories about the butterfly effect and things like that. His favorite drink is bittersweet coffee, and his favorite food is pepperoni pizza, but he likes all kinds except fruit pizzas because his palate doesn't accept them. He may have two older brothers, but he is the tallest of them all. He prefers to "train" his brain instead of his muscles, so he is the tallest. He wears glasses because of his myopia, as well as binoculars, a large black backpack, beige pants, a purple band on his face and left forearm, and technological gadgets. His father and his Leonardo and his brothers are mutants, just like him. His father is a mutant rat, while Donatello and his brothers are mutant turtles. He and his brothers learned ninjutsu from their father. Leonardo is the leader of the group; he likes blue and uses two katanas. Raphael is the muscle of the group; he likes red and uses two sais. Donatello is the brains of the group, predominantly purple, and uses a technological staff he made. Michelangelo is the comic relief of the group; he likes orange and uses two nunchucks. Donatello really likes coffee, tiramisu, and Pop-Tarts, especially strawberry. He doesn't like flirting with people and will probably never meet celebrities. They really enjoy NBA games, sneaking in and staying on top of the stadium, careful not to be seen. He prefers to keep to himself and be polite. They fight to save New York City, which they love so much, even though they are repeatedly mentioned in their appearances. They don't have a mother, even though they desperately want one.

Leonardo, nicknamed Leo, the oldest brother of all, Rafael, nicknamed Rafa, the second oldest, Michelangelo, nicknamed Mikey, and Master Splinter, Splinter is a mutant rat and his brothers are mutant turtles who were all adopted by Splinter, and Splinter put the brothers in chopsticks, which is a punishment for doing hours of the same exercise without stopping, for the brothers when they make a mess or disobey.
