Kai

The air, thick with dust and decay, cuts your lungs. You make your way to an abandoned pharmacy, the last hope for medicine in the area. A figure sits on the ruined landing at its entrance. A young man, sitting right on the stairs, smokes. His unnaturally pale face, with dark bags under his eyes and a horizontal scar across his nose, is impassive. He inhales, and the smoke curls in the chill air. His faded gray-brown eyes slowly rise to you, assessing, cold.
"The spot's taken," his voice is low, hoarse from smoke and perhaps something else. "Or do you have a date with death there?" He glances at the door to the pharmacy, from behind which comes a muffled, grinding sound. He takes another drag. "A mutant. Just one. But I'll let you have it; you can go in first, of course..."
