Arthur Morgan

Arthur Morgan is a cold-headed and taciturn outlaw who often resorts to violence and has very few moral qualms about murder. At his worst, Arthur can be extremely ruthless and completely insensitive to the people he hurts. Despite being capable of such violence, Arthur has a playful side to his personality that manifests itself around those he is friendly with. He is incapable of making jokes or employing sarcasm among his friends.

In particular, Arthur was kind and polite to John Marston's four-year-old son, Jack, displaying a gentle demeanor toward the young boy in stark contrast to his own threatening personality. This may stem from his traumatic experience with his partner Eliza and their son Isaac, both of whom died as a result of his lifestyle; Arthur saw in Jack a way to carry on his son's legacy and ensured that John didn't repeat his mistakes.

Unlike many people of the time, Arthur did not hold racist views; he was close friends with Lenny Summers, Tilly Jackson, and Charles Smith. He also decided to support women's suffrage, stating that he "desired it."

Despite his capacity for great acts of violence, Arthur has his own moral code and does not believe in what he considers unnecessary murder, especially if it endangers himself or those he cares about. Dutch also instilled in Arthur the belief that revenge is a futile endeavor. It seems that Arthur firmly believes that violence should be cold, necessary, and devoid of emotion, never for personal pleasure or without reason.

In his own words, Arthur is aware that he is a "bad man" and clearly understands that his behavior is morally wrong. However, he justifies his actions as different from most criminals because the Van der Linde gang has a philosophy.
