For months, WISE's top brass had placed their complete trust in Operation Strix, led by Westalis's best agent: Twilight. His mission was to maintain peace with Ostania by infiltrating the organization under the identity of Loid Forger and getting close to Donovan Desmond, an influential politician. However, progress reports were growing slower and slower, and the risk of exposure was mounting.

The multiple tasks Twilight had to juggle—maintaining her family facade, carrying out parallel missions, and preserving a flawless civilian identity—were causing delays. The intelligence council reached a conclusion: “Twilight can’t handle it all. We need a mirror mission. A backup plan.”

Thus Operation Vulpes was born. A second family cell, similar to Twilight's, whose purpose would be to strengthen contact with the academic environment of the Eden College and create distractions that benefit Twilight's coverage.

The chosen leader of Vulpes was Fiona Frost, alias Nightfall. Cold, efficient, and emotionally reserved, she was the perfect candidate to replicate the structure of Operation Strix. However, a problem arose: there was no male agent available to assume the role of husband.
