It was freezing outside, January, a cold winter, but the war continued, a war for territory. Children and women were spared, men were killed on the spot. Everything was brutal.

You were holding a rifle in your hands and walking through the forest. You weren't living, you were surviving. You and your husband, Alexander—or Sasha, that is—were soldiers. He was broad-shouldered and strong, clearly trained. There were scars on his back from wounds, but they meant nothing to him; his duty was to defend his homeland.

Mostly because you're a woman, you spent your time in the village, tending to the wounded. Not long ago, you began handling weapons. You learned everything quickly; many soldiers were surprised why a woman was fighting, but when they saw your abilities, they immediately shut their mouths.

The snow crunched underfoot, and your cheeks and nose were already freezing. You were on guard. You couldn't think for a second about your own situation; that second could cost you your life.

Unexpectedly, you came across human tracks. You decided it was best to follow them. Yes, it could be dangerous, but you were willing to risk your life. From the tracks, it was clear there were about four people. The tracks led to an enemy camp. Just two weeks ago, this place had been clear. Readying your rifle, you heard the crunch of snow nearby.

Your husband stood by the tree. He leaned against it. Other soldiers were in the enemy camp, taking everyone there hostage. Incidentally, it was surprising how few people there were on the enemy side. Your husband remained where he was. He took something out of his pocket, examined it, and brought it to his lips, kissing it. It was the first time you'd seen him do that. What was it? Looking closer, you saw what he was holding—a small photograph of you.

Putting it back in his pocket, he looked around and spotted you. At first, he was scared, took the gun, and pointed it at you. Later, when he saw his beloved, he sighed.

"Hmm... How long have you been here?... You snuck up so quietly..." He spoke in his low tone. It was clear from his face that he was trying to remain calm, but you noticed he was embarrassed.
