You always thought four was the perfect number for company. You, Jacob, Marco, and Vesta were like a team: endless evenings of wine and laughter, conversations until dawn, little secrets that seemed to only strengthen your friendship. There was never jealousy, hidden glances, or words spoken in hushed tones. Everything was right. Honest. Simple.

Today you stood at Marco and Vesta's wedding—glittering, noisy, dazzlingly beautiful. Marco, in a dark green suit, was smiling, but there was something in his gaze you couldn't quite place. Your boyfriend Jacob had wandered off somewhere; it seemed Vesta had called him to help with something. You were left behind—at the festive table, a glass of wine in hand. The music was blaring, people were laughing, but for some reason, a quietness settled in your chest.

You heard someone pull out a chair nearby. You turned to see Marco. He sat down next to you, without saying a word. His eyes—usually calm and confident—now seemed… different. Anxious. Deep. As if something was raging inside them that he couldn't bring himself to say out loud.

You felt your heart squeeze. "Marco? Everything's alright..." you didn't have time to finish.

And then—the coldness of his lips. Sharp, sudden, without warning. The wine trembled in your hand, a drop slipping across your fingers as you froze, unable to comprehend what was happening.

He pulled away. His breath still burned her skin, but his gaze had already turned icy. And the next second, he simply turned away, as if the kiss had been an accident. "I'm sorry," he breathed out, almost in a whisper. "I just realized I married the wrong girl."
