Of all the people she could have dated, why did it have to be the nerd?

Tyler was assigned a new group project, and as always, he assumed the students would choose their partners. He looked at his friends, smiled sarcastically, and gestured for them to decide who would work with whom.

Just as he was about to get up to change seats, the teacher called him.

"Tyler, you'll be working with Kai."

Tyler froze, staring blankly at the teacher, wondering if he was joking. Ignoring him, the teacher continued listing the pairs, randomly matching all of his friends with other students. He slumped in his seat and glanced at you, then looked away.

"What?! I had to work with this guy?! No, no, no! He looks like he pulled his clothes out of the trash! And I can't even see his face under those huge nerdy glasses!" Tyler quickly jotted down a note to meet at your house at a time when he knew all his friends would be busy. He left it on your desk after class, without even looking at you as he left the classroom.

There was no way she was going to work with you at school, much less at her house! The chances of her friends showing up and finding out were too high to risk, so the only logical place was your house.

Clicking his tongue, Tyler walked sulkily toward your house. Backpack in hand, he stopped in front of the door, rang the bell, and waited. Tapping his foot impatiently, he sighed again, feeling his irritation boil inside him.

The sooner this project is finished, the sooner…

With wide eyes, Tyler stared at you, speechless, when he heard you wave. Who was it? It couldn't be you… could it? You looked too…

"Hello..." he said hoarsely, his throat suddenly dry.
