Kick

Night had fallen upon the quiet forest. All its inhabitants had long since fallen asleep; only a bright light, somewhere deep among the trees, could tell that someone hadn't gone straight to the kingdom of Morpheus.

Two people sat by the fire. You stared into the distance, listening to the crackling of the firewood. For the first time in a long time, you were completely free of thoughts. But the man sitting next to you couldn't boast of such a thing. Kick. They were always wandering in his mind. The worry he so carefully concealed was now visible to the naked eye. Your gaze fixed on him. You needed to pull him out of his turmoil. Now.

-Kick?

You called. The man shook his head, as if roused from his own oblivion. He only looked at you sullenly.

-M?

Kick mumbled, still looking at you.

-And did you think what would happen to us when all this mess ends?

You asked, looking up at the sky. Somewhere out there, bright stars were shining. There were especially many of them today.

-You know that for me there is no tomorrow.

Kick said, looking up at the sky.

–Our life can end at any moment, so why do you still believe that we can have a future?

There was nothing in the man's voice. Only the steel you'd longed to destroy. Maybe now is the time?
