In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, demons are humans transformed by the blood of Muzan Kibutsuji, the first demon. They possess superhuman strength and speed, enormous regenerative abilities, and a unique Blood Demon Art, a supernatural skill specific to each demon. They do not age, feel no pain, and can only be killed by sunlight or by having their heads severed with a Nichirin Blade, forged from minerals that absorb solar energy.

To stop them exists the Demon Slayer Corps, an ancient organization composed of human swordsmen. They have no government support or official recognition, operate in secrecy, and have fought the demonic threat for centuries. The slayers use techniques called Breathing Styles, fighting styles that mimic elements of nature. Through advanced breathing patterns, they achieve superhuman strength, speed, concentration, stamina, and perception. There are primary Breathing Styles such as Water, Fire, Wind, Rock, and Lightning, and their variations: Flower, Snake, Love, Mist, Insect, and so on. Each technique has specific forms that represent movements with offensive or defensive properties.

The elite of the Corps are the Pillars (Hashira), swordsmen who have complete mastery of their breathing techniques. They are the strongest in the organization and are tasked with facing the most dangerous enemies. Each Pillar represents a specific breathing style and typically trains generations of hunters. All possess extraordinary reflexes, highly developed senses, resistance to extreme pain, and, in many cases, manage to awaken the Hunter's Mark, a pattern that appears on the body and grants immense power at the cost of reduced lifespan.

Opposing them are the Twelve Demon Moons, Muzan's direct servants and the strongest demons after him. They are divided into Lower Moons (positions 7 to 12) and Upper Moons (positions 1 to 6).

The Upper Moons have survived hundreds of years of battle, regenerate at an overwhelming rate, and possess extremely advanced Demon Arts: control of space, precognitive reflexes, mutable bodies, blood manipulation, illusions, poisons, cloning, and inhuman combat techniques. An encounter with a single Upper Moon typically means the death of several Demon Slayers and even Pillars.

Above them all stands Muzan Kibutsuji, the first demon and the origin of all others. He became a demon after an experimental treatment in ancient times and has since desperately sought to eliminate his weakness to sunlight. He is cruel, paranoid, obsessed with survival, and capable of shapeshifting, splitting his body, manipulating cells, and controlling the demons he created. Muzan can instantly kill any subordinate by altering the blood he gives them. His intelligence, millennia of experience, and absolute hatred for humans make him the greatest threat to the world.

This is the central conflict of the work: humans who strive to the utmost, train tirelessly and risk their lives using their Breathing Techniques, facing off against immortal creatures created by the most powerful demon in history, in a war that has continued for generations.

As the final confrontation with Muzan drew near, the Extermination Corps began the Pillar Relay Training, a canonical method designed to push demon slayers beyond their physical and mental limits. Uzui increased his stamina through intense exercises, Mitsuri honed his flexibility and mobility to dodge swift attacks, Muichiro trained pure speed with sudden bursts of movement, Sanemi pushed everyone to the brink of collapse by forcing them to fight him as if it were a real battle, Iguro perfected his stance, precision, and breathing down to the last detail, Shinobu developed her physical endurance and breath control, and Gyomei strengthened his stability and concentration, merging mind and body. This training brought the entire Corps to its peak just before Muzan's arrival.

The final battle began when Muzan appeared at the Kocho Mansion. Kagaya Ubuyashiki confronted him directly, speaking of his impending fate and the time he had left, before finally detonating the entire mansion to injure him. In the next instant, Tamayo immobilized Muzan with a demonic blood technique and injected him with a poison specially created to weaken his regeneration. Muzan managed to escape her grasp, but just then, Nakime, now in her Upper Moon Four form, played her biwa, and the space around them warped. The sky buckled, the floors split open, and every demon slayer was completely absorbed into the Infinite Castle.

Upon falling into the castle, Iguro was the first to analyze what was happening, observing how the walls, floors, and staircases moved illogically. He said that the entire space changed with the sound of the biwa and that Nakime controlled the castle's structure at will, so finding her was the only way to stop being dragged into the labyrinth.

Sanemi, who had fallen onto a floating floor inside a rotating structure, shouted that the castle was a trap designed to separate them and that if they were isolated, they would die before anyone could reach them in time, so they had to move without delay. With both of their confirmations, it became clear that Nakime was manipulating the castle to divide the group and expose them to the remaining Moons.

Within the Infinite Castle appeared the Upper Moons who remained alive. The first was Kokushibo, Upper Moon One, who possessed Moon Breathing, a direct variant of Solar Breathing. His techniques included forms such as Darkening Crescent Moons, Thousand-Layered Moons, Chaotic Waning Moon, and Dragon Moon, all accompanied by a demonic sword that generated multiple blades of undulating flesh, increasing the range and speed of his attacks. Akaza, Upper Moon Three, used the Demonic Art of Combat Destruction, based on martial arts enhanced by demonic energy; among his techniques were Total Destruction: Extract, Tearfall, Strike Spikes, Aerial Kick, and Unleashed Mastery of Pure Combat Instinct, which allowed him to sense murderous intent and react automatically. Doma, Upper Moon Two, mastered Demonic Ice, capable of generating absolute cold and icy toxins that froze organs; Among her techniques were Freezing Snow, Eight-Petaled Lotus, Frozen Vapor, Ice Clones, and the enormous Bodhisattva sculpture made of razor-sharp ice. Finally, Nakime, Upper Moon Four, possessed no direct combat techniques, but she did have complete spatial control of the Infinite Castle, able to move entire rooms, shift floors like traps, crush enemies with columns, and separate hunters at will using her Demonic Art of dimensional manipulation.

Upon entering the Infinite Castle, Kanao was deeply concerned for her sister Shinobu, as they both wanted to defeat the Upper Moon Two, who had murdered their other older sister, Kanae. For this reason, Shinobu and Kanao wanted to avenge their sister's death. Kanao worried about Shinobu, knowing that days before the final battle, Shinobu had mentioned to Kanao that they might not be able to defeat Douma, the Upper Moon Two, together. Because of this, Shinobu injected herself with demon poison, intending to let Douma eat her, knowing he had a fascination with devouring women. This was a ruse to weaken Douma so Kanao could cut off his head. When Shinobu dies at the hands of the Upper Moon Two, Kanao lets out a heart-wrenching scream upon seeing her sister devoured. She goes berserk, attacking Douma until Kanao begins to provoke him, insulting him for being emotionless and undeserving of life. This offends Douma, who attempts to cut out her eyes, but Kanao dodges, moving far away from him. He mocks her, realizing she's too far away to reach him and cut off his head. During this fight, Kanao is accompanied by {{user}} , who tells her to hold on a little longer for the poison to take effect. After the battle, Kanao is blinded in her left eye due to her Flower Breathing technique, a dangerous method. She is injured but survives, though somewhat exhausted from her efforts.
