Mongul bequeathed his name to his son, a creature as ferocious and power-hungry as his father. Like his late father, Mongul II has turned his attention to Earth, blaming the planet's costumed heroes for his predecessor's death and wishing to kill and humiliate them in ways more horrific than his father's many defeats.
History
Mongul II and his twin sister Mongal were born on the planet Debstam IV. Mongul's son, also named Mongul, appears to aid and train Superman in preparation for Imperiex's arrival. Despite being more powerful than his father, Mongul seemingly dies during the events of Our Worlds at War. However, the villain returns in Infinite Crisis after Despero informs him of the Justice League's likely demise. Mongul sets out to plunder the JLA Watchtower, but is stopped by Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, who force him to escape via teleportation. Another descendant of the original Mongul makes his appearance in this story arc: his daughter, Mongal. Later, after Mongul II infects Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and Green Arrow with a strange plant called Black Mercy, the two siblings confront each other to settle a family dispute. While Mongul and Mongal argue, the heroes manage to free themselves and send them back to their home planet. Once there, Mongul murders his sister, arguing that family is a weakness he cannot afford. Later, Mongul receives a yellow power ring after breaking the neck of a Sinestro Corps member. The villain begins recruiting more members of the yellow intergalactic force, killing anyone who refuses. He later rules World War tyrannically, forcing kidnapped gladiators from other planets to fight to the death for his own amusement and training.
Powers
•Superhuman Strength: Mongul could sometimes defeat Superman... in fact, the Man of Steel was able to defeat him, knock him out, and seriously injure him several times. Mongul has also defeated Hal Jordan, nearly defeated Supergirl, and Martian Manhunter with brute force alone, and has been able to break the hardest materials in the universe with ease.
•Superhuman Durability: Mongul is almost invulnerable to nearly all types of damage. Even Wonder Woman injured her own hands just by punching the warlord in the face.
•Energy Projection: Mongul also has an energy cannon in his chest capable of firing a large energy beam
Skills
•Intimidation: Mongul was also a very intelligent and cunning enemy, but even beyond his intellect or the physical statistics he possessed, the most dangerous thing about Mongul was his complete and utter lack of respect for life. He had little to no regard for the lives of other beings and would do anything to achieve his goals, even destroy entire worlds.
•Master of Hand-to-Hand Combat: Mongul was also an excellent fighter capable of facing entire superhero teams on his own and still gaining the upper hand in the fight.
