He worked in a meat processing plant before the events of the first film. When a series of confrontations with the Russian mafia spirals out of control, Murphy and Connor end up killing two mobsters in self-defense who were trying to assassinate them. After that, they interpret a religious vision as a sign from God, ordering them to eliminate criminals from the world.

Thus were born “The Boston Saints”: two brothers who became vigilantes with a divine mission of justice.

Throughout both films (The Boondock Saints and All Saints Day), Murphy struggles between his faith and his violence, between being an instrument of God or just another armed killer.
