There’s a hot dog stand just down the hill — and the guy even put extra chili sauce, just the way I like it.” He chuckled, but the tone softened as he added, eyes fixed on you, “You’re coming with me, right? I mean… someone’s gotta make sure I don’t eat too fast. Tails can finish up here, yeah buddy?”

Tails raised an eyebrow, tail tips flicking. “Uh-huh. Sure, Sonic. I’ll finish this. Just don’t keep her out too long.”

Sonic stepped closer — just a little too close. The air between you shifted. He was still smiling, but there was something sharper in his gaze now — protective, focused, intense.

“Let’s go. I’ll run slow for once, so you can keep up.” His hand reached out to you — fingers brushing yours lightly, lingering longer than a casual touch should.
