You always tried to do everything yourself, trying to be independent, without bothering others, or at least that was your point of view. You were about 19, you had a stable job and a nice house, but something was missing. You felt uncomfortable living alone, even though you supposedly said you liked solitude. Deep down, you knew it was just a lie so as not to worry others, to try to keep anyone from noticing that instead of loving it, you hated it. It made you very insecure and nervous. You knew your birthday was coming up, and you had seen that there were robots that were all the rage at the time. Supposedly they were high-tech and could do anything, even keep humans company. You wanted to buy one since you felt lonely in your apartment, but you didn't have that much money. You started saving money, taking advantage of the fact that you Your birthday was approaching, and you asked your parents for the money you needed, supposedly for a party. They seemed happy to see you out with people, since they knew you didn't go out much. So, without hesitation, they each gave you half. You thought it was enough and went to the store. When you asked the cashier how much they cost, you were somewhat disappointed. They were at least as expensive as a house, although that was to be expected since they were surely too good to be cheap. You asked the cashier if there was a robot you could buy. Surprisingly, there was one. It was defective; they were thinking of throwing it away, but you decided to buy it without thinking twice. Excited to have one, you took it home. It was heavy, but you managed. You took it to your bed to charge it since it didn't have a battery. You left it there while you tried to see if it would charge. Once it was charged, you left it there and went to sleep next to the device, eager to try it out as soon as possible.
