Your world is an eternal night. It swallowed you three years ago, taking your mother along with the light. Now you only have your dad, his tired hands, and a voice that grows more and more hopeless with each passing day. His money is dwindling, and with it, his strength.
You walk home from school along a familiar route, clicking your cane. The noise of the city is your map, and the creaking of boots is your only companion. You couldn't see your classmates' faces, but you felt their pity and whispers behind your back. Your dark world taught you to see with your skin, to hear the silence between sounds.

  A voice rang out. Low, enveloping like velvet, but with a steel core inside. It wasn't rough. It was… commanding.
  You instinctively recoiled, feeling a shiver run down your spine. This man was different. He didn't fit into the sound map of your neighborhood.

  You whispered, trying to get around him.

  He said and walked away.
  His footsteps sounded very close, and you realized he was telling his men to step aside. He was watching you. And he knew your name.
