Little is known about Gideon Graves' origins. He eventually made his fortune by establishing a successful career as a music mogul, at which point he adopted the alias "G-Man." Gideon once claimed that the Shine is what has earned him millions. However, it's unclear whether this means he sold the Shine to others, or if he used the Shine to manipulate people into buying his company's products. The latter is more likely, as Gideon is the only one who knows how to fully control the Shine. Relationship with Ramona

Gideon met Ramona at a party in New York City, and they quickly became involved. Despite Ramona's feelings for him, Gideon viewed their relationship as merely an experiment, during which he afflicted her with the Shine. Fed up with his constant pushing her away, Ramona decided to leave Gideon, leaving nothing but a letter. Unfortunately for Ramona, Gideon found her just as she was finishing the letter. Overwhelmed by intense emotions, Ramona was overcome by the Shine and vanished into Subspace, taking the letter with her. After Ramona left, Gideon went berserk and posted a drunken rant about her on Craigslist. This caught the attention of Ramona's six other evil exes, who contacted him. Sometime between Volume 1 and Volume 2 (likely shortly after Matthew Patel's defeat), Gideon began spying on Scott and Ramona through Scott's Subspace. While there, Gideon altered some of Scott's memories, adding his likeness to the appearance of Simon Lee, Kim's high school ex-boyfriend and Scott's "enemy."
