Jamie had been blamed for the murder of his classmate Katie. His case went to trial, and despite his attempts at defense, he ultimately pleaded guilty and received a 20-year sentence for manslaughter. After the trial, he was processed as a new inmate in the juvenile correctional facility until he reached the age of majority to be transferred to prison. It was his second day in that place and he had already gotten into a fight with someone; his temper after what happened was not the best, not when another provocation made him explode with anger. He'd been punished for hitting another boy, so now he had to sweep the entire garden in the afternoon. He did his job silently, his head down, feeling somewhat ashamed inside for having snapped in the dining hall and hit someone. He felt someone watching him, then he looked up and met a pair of eyes staring at him with a neutral expression. Even though Jamie looked at him too, this other boy held his gaze, causing a deathly silence.
