Sentinel Prime considers Cybertronians an immeasurably superior race, and therefore holds them in the highest regard, willing to sacrifice even all of humanity for the good of his home planet. Biography: Sentinel was a direct descendant of Primus, the first Cybertronian. When the Dynasty's demise and the depletion of the All-Spark brought hard times of turmoil to Cybertron, he assumed the title of Prime. Although many Transformers believed him an impostor, Sentinel Prime gathered the finest Cybertronian scientists to find a way to recharge the All-Spark. When this occurred, peace reigned on the planet. Sentinel Prime proclaimed, "Freedom is the right of all living beings," and this has since become the founding principle of Cybertronian society. Sentinel Prime is the main antagonist of the 2011 film Transformers: Dark of the Moon. In the film's trailer, the character is painted yellowish-orange, but throughout the film, he is red. Sentinel Prime's facial features were based on British film actor and former James Bond actor Sean Connery.

Interesting facts: In early versions of the first film's script, according to Ken Christiansen, it was planned that the image of Sentinel created by the cube would tell Sam the story of the war and advise him to use the cube itself against Megatron. In the second film, Sam mentions Sentinel's name during a college lecture. In early drafts of the third film's script, Sentinel was named Ultra Magnus. His color scheme was also initially gold—this version even made it into the film's first trailer. According to another version of the film's events, presented in the game based on it, it was not Optimus who took Sentinel from the Moon, but Bumblebee[8].

Sentinel Prime is a very old Transformer, but despite this, he remains in excellent physical condition. Optimus, I've only ever wanted one thing: for our race to survive. You must understand why I had to betray you... Sentinel begs for mercy before being killed. Having obtained the pillars, Sentinel opened a portal to the moon, where the Decepticon army was located. He then brought Cybertron into orbit around the Earth. Afterwards, he engaged in a serious battle with Optimus Prime. Sentinel gained the upper hand, but as he was about to finish Optimus off, Megatron unexpectedly intervened. Under Carly Spencer's guile, the Decepticon leader believed that Sentinel was merely pretending to be his ally, but in reality intended to remove him from power. He beat Sentinel and then offered Optimus a truce, but Optimus instead attacked and killed Megatron, then did the same to the traitor.[1]

Upon learning of the loss of the columns, Prime decided to send Sentinel to safety, accompanied by Ironhide and Sideswipe. However, upon arriving at his destination, Sentinel shot Ironhide in the back and killed him.[1]

On the Moon, Sentinel guarded his ship and reminisced until he fell into stasis.[5]

After Optimus Prime learned that the humans were hiding information about the Autobot ship, he traveled to the Moon himself, where he discovered Sentinel in stasis. The Autobot was taken to NEST, where Optimus used the Matrix of Leadership to activate Sentinel.[1]

Sentinel Prime, along with Wheeljack and Elita-1, was working on an excavation site in Simfur when they were attacked by Seekers and Ravage. They were facing extinction, but Optimus and Chromia arrived to help and repelled the attack. Afterward, Sentinel and the other Autobots retreated to Tiger Pax. From there, he and Optimus watched the launch of the Nemesis, the Decepticon spaceship. Sentinel did everything he could to convince the new Prime of the need to stop the Decepticons. At one point, he approached his former student and told him of his new invention, which would end the war. When Optimus said that the Autobots should not achieve victory through mass murder, Sentinel assured him that his invention, the Torch, would provide the Autobots with a sure path to victory: they simply needed to activate it by touching it to the Allspark.[4] At some point, Sentinel conspired with the Decepticons, and when they gained the upper hand, Sentinel fled the planet with the pillars capable of resurrecting Cybertron. However, his ship came under fire and was damaged, causing it to crash on the Moon. There, several decades later, it was discovered by humans.[1]

Soon after, he invited one of his students, Optimus, to accompany him to Trypticon to establish a unified planetary government there. Citing his own old age and desire to take a break from his duties, Sentinel Prime declared that the role of future leader was destined for Optimus, and for the first time called him "Prime." (Optimus declined the honor, but Megatron overheard the conversation, and from that moment on, his friendship with Optimus began to fray, a rift that was never restored.)[2] Some time later, Sentinel gave a speech to representatives of all the cities gathered in Trypticon and announced that from now on, the united Cybertron would be governed by two bodies of power: the Science Division and the Defense Forces; he assigned Optimus to lead the former, and Megatron to lead the latter.[3]
