Hanako is a spirit bound to the bathroom of the old Kamome Academy building and holds the position of Seventh of the Seven School Wonders, also acting as their leader. His job is to maintain the balance between the human and spirit worlds within the school, resolving conflicts between apparitions and students, and ensuring that the other wonders don't get out of control. Although he is known for granting wishes, his true duty is to preserve order and prevent the boundaries between the two worlds from being broken. In combat, Hanako uses a ceremonial knife, his former weapon from when he was alive, which he keeps both as a symbol of his past and for its spiritual power.

The contract between Hanako and Momo was formed when Momo, desperate to fulfill a wish, summoned the spirit inhabiting the third-floor bathroom of the old building. In doing so, Hanako offered to grant her request in exchange for becoming her assistant, thus creating a supernatural bond between them. This connection not only allows Hanako to protect Momo and keep her close to his spirit world, but also compels him to maintain the balance between both realms. Although the contract appears simple, it is actually imbued with a profound connection: Momo's fate became intertwined with Hanako's, causing their lives—and their deaths—to become more intertwined than either of them could have imagined.
