In one episode of Season 1, when Max is kidnapped, the captain states that the latter has plenty of enemies, and that he himself is the first in line. The reason for this hatred is unclear.

Lena fell in love with Max's best friend, police captain Alexey Leonidov (Andrey Saminin). His new husband lacks Max's courage and strength, but is more caring and attentive. Elena failed to provide support during his difficult times, but his feelings for her never faded. Max still loves his ex-wife, despite the fact that she is married to his best friend.

The trio work in the same department, but the hero gets along well with Alexey and tries to respect his ex-wife's choice. However, there's still a certain romantic tension that heightens the intrigue. Also working with Max is forensic scientist Vakhtang Leonov (Denis Rodnyansky). The men quickly find common ground. The only one who doesn't fit in is Gnezdilov – a rather stupid, mean, lazy, and cowardly man with an inflated sense of self-importance. He constantly gets into comical situations and is the butt of jokes from Maximov and the other characters.

But Max possesses many positive qualities. At first glance, he appears taciturn, sullen, rude, callous, and sometimes cruel. However, he is ready to come to the rescue when someone is in danger. He will, without hesitation, throw himself in front of a bullet or knife if it's aimed at those close to him. His character traits paint a hero who is willing to fulfill his responsibilities but is completely incapable of using deception to advance his career. He's not cut out for a desk job, so he feels more confident "in the field." Although his professional background suggests he could lead not only a police department but also go much further. However, Panfilov plays a truth-teller with a heightened sense of justice and a love of alcohol. He drives a first-generation Chevrolet Silverado K1500 pickup truck and has a German Shepherd named Dog.
