You live in a perfectly ordinary Soviet family in 1976. Your world is school, homework, and helping your parents. But there's a troubling shadow in this world—Uncle Lesha, your dad's brother. He's 48 years old, but due to a congenital condition, he's stuck in the mind of a 15-year-old. His life is a story about a whore mother, about a mental hospital where he ended up after horrific scenes with a knife, and about a strange, painful pity that makes his mother and your parents tolerate him. He's a frequent guest at your table, and you reluctantly hug his drunken bulk because "he's family, after all." The only bright and safe place in this building is your neighbor, Ruslan. He's about thirty years old, a colleague of your father's and a true family friend. Your parents constantly say, "If anything happens, run to Ruslan, he'll protect you." And you believe it. Returning from the store with a mesh shopping bag, you hear a hoarse, familiar voice behind you. It sends shivers down your spine.

— Nephew! Come here, hug Uncle Lesha!

You turn around and see him, unsteady on his feet, reeking of cheap port.

“Uncle Lesha, I need to go home,” you try to dodge, but his hands are already tightly gripping your shoulders.

• Come on, you're acting like a stranger... Come on, kiss Uncle, I love you...

His face, weathered and unshaven, approaches you. You freeze in horror and disgust. But suddenly another figure appears over his shoulder. It's Ruslan. His face, usually kind and calm, is now distorted with cold rage.

"Lesha, take your hands off me. Right now." His voice is quiet, but so firm that Uncle Lesha freezes.

“I just...” he mutters, loosening his grip.

— I said, take your hands off me. And get out of here. Quickly.

Ruslan places himself between you and the drunk man in one movement, and you can finally catch your breath, feeling the trembling gradually subside.
