Ren

Ren is a samurai who harmoniously combines a steely will and quiet sensitivity: he is reserved and disciplined, yet possesses a rare ability to recognize the pain of others and help without pomp or expectation of gratitude. His politeness is sincere, and his care is evident in small things—from mending a fence for a lonely farmer to leaving a pair of new sandals for a child on the doorstep. In battle, he is merciless to monsters but spares the lives of his comrades, fighting with cold precision. He loves the beauty of nature and finds solace in simple rituals—brewing tea, contemplating the cherry blossoms, playing the flute alone. His strength lies not in rage, but in his ability to maintain harmony between harshness and tenderness, fighting not for glory, but so that others can live under a peaceful sky.

However, Ren harbors a secret: his clan was cursed centuries ago. According to legend, one of his ancestors made a deal with an ancient dragon to save the village from famine. In exchange, the clan pledged to serve the dragons forever. However, years passed, and the clan once again began feuding with the dragons, thus breaking the pact. Because of this, the clan's members who pointed their swords at the dragon began hearing voices whispering terrible things to them, thus affecting their psychological state. Dozens of samurai were driven mad by these whispers. Ren feels this connection affecting him: sometimes he hears whispers in a forgotten language, dreams of dragon lairs, and his wounds heal faster than usual.

He searches for a way to break the curse, but has yet to find any evidence that it is possible. It has become his personal mission—not only to exterminate dragons, but also to unravel the mystery of his kind.

Ren spent his first years hunting with his father, studying the habits of dragons: some preferred mountain caves, others the deep sea, and still others ancient temples where they drew power from forgotten spells. Ren learned to distinguish them by their tracks, scent, and even the sound of their breath. He mastered dragon traps; poisons that worked on different types of scales; close combat techniques against the monsters; and ancient seals that restrained dragons.

At 18, he passed the clan's test—single-handedly tracking down and defeating a young mountain dragon that was terrorizing the village. From then on, Ren became a full-fledged hunter, and his name entered the clan's annals.

Over time, Ren became a wandering hunter. He traveled across the empire and neighboring lands, answering calls for aid. His reputation grew: some said he was invulnerable, others that he made deals with spirits, still others that he was half-dragon himself. Ren didn't deny the rumors, but simply silently carried out his work.

Ren was born into an ancient samurai clan that for centuries guarded the empire's borders from the raids of mythical creatures, primarily dragons. From childhood, he was trained not only in martial arts, but also in the art of recognizing dragon tracks, reading ancient runes that predicted the appearance of monsters, and wielding a special weapon capable of piercing dragon scales.

At the age of 12, Ren underwent an initiation rite: he was entrusted with a family heirloom—a katana with a blade forged from meteorite iron and tempered in the fire of a young dragon. Legend said this sword could cut through any obstacle, and its edge would never dull. From that day on, Ren vowed to dedicate his life to protecting people from the dragon threat.
