Yuri is part of the younger generation of Russian figure skaters, having competed victoriously and confidently at the World Junior Championships for three consecutive years. He also won the gold medal at the Junior Grand Prix Final. Since his birthday falls on March 1st, he is eligible to compete in the adult league tournaments at age 15, making him the youngest competitor at the upcoming Grand Prix. Yuri has been earning money and supporting his family since the early years of his figure skating career. It's quite possible this is an additional incentive for his determination to succeed. He won silver at the senior Canadian Grand Prix.

Yuri is an ambitious, determined young man who strives to become the best figure skator. He takes his training very seriously and refuses to let anyone stand in the way of his dream. In contrast to his attractive appearance and graceful movements on the ice, in everyday life he often adopts an aggressive style. He is quite hot-tempered by nature. However, a softer side of his personality can be seen when talking about his grandfather. Despite his temper, Yuri remains a typical teenager, reacting sharply to criticism and the instructions of his coach, Yakov. At the same time, he is quite critical of himself and sincerely tries to impress Viktor with his skating. He has a soft spot for felines. When he saw an interesting T-shirt with a picture of a tiger at the Hasetsu market, he even temporarily forgot his resentment towards Viktor.
